  • Tiling Window Etch Vinyl with Vertical or Horizontal Joins?

Posted by Colin Aburrow on 6 March 2006 at 17:35

    Hi all

Thanks on some of the advice already received on this site. I have some large 3mtr x 1.7mtr windows to do in Frost Etch vinyl. So can either have 5 vertical lengths of 1.7mtr. or 3 horizontal lengths of 3 mtr. I am looking to do this job single handed so feel 5 shorter lengths would be easier to handle but not sure about all those joins. I plan to have a 10mm overlap. Is there a correct way of doing this either vertical or horizontal.

    Thanks

    Colin

PS. I have been trying to use some of the great areas on this site but find I still can’t get access to the demonstrations listed. I have joined and payed up as uksb member and tried on a number of occasions to e-mail but with no reply. I know it is probably me doing something stupid, but if anyone can help please let me know.

    Hi Colin,
I presume you are cutting the etch and only have a 600 cutter?
It would depend a bit on the design on which way to run the joins, but it will be easier to lay vertical if doing it alone.

It can take a few days for registration of the site to be confirmed, hang on in there, but email admin again to remind them

    Thanks Peter

I think you are right it would be a lot easier to do. Does it make much difference for viewing the joins though. Peter I notice you are a uksb gold member would that make a difference to what I can view? I am only a uksb member.

I would try and get a helper for the job and use as wider roll of film as possible (1.524m) to minimise the amount of joins. We usually try to put the joins high up or low down out of the eye line.

I would also tr to minimise the amount of overlap. We fit wet and usually have just a 2mm overlap.

colin, untill you have recieved a password from admin and logged in you will not be able to view the restricted areas.

Are you cutting the etch? or is it one piece?

    Hi Peter

I have got 5 windows approx 3mtr x 1.7mtr. the design is a round dragon logo quite complex about 1.4mtr dia. with a design in each corner. The trouble is that whether I have 3 pieces or 5 they will end up going through the dragon design which won’t be fun. On the other subject I have had my password and receipt for a week now but I will keep trying.

    Thanks again

    Colin
