  • Thinking of going it alone – advice please!

    Hi all,
I’ve been working for a graphic display company for several years, running the mounting/finishing department. I’m itching to start out on my own with a small, large format printing/finishing company. The problem is I have very little experience with the computer side of things. Does anyone have any advice of the best way to start learning about RIP software, printing guidelines etc. Preferably without having to involve my current employer?
    Many thanks!
    Alex.

    Welcome to the boards….

As long as you understand that it will be a steep learning curve, and you are prepared to read, learn and experiment, you’ll have little to worry about.

It will not be easy, but its all upto the amount of dedication you have to succeed.

This is a great resource, I’d suggest you buy gold+ membership, that will give you access to the tutorials.

Hope that is of some help.

    Hey Alex,

I’ve just entered the digital printing side of signage and when I bought my machine the company I bought it from provided me with all the training I needed to get going.

Not sure what kind of equipment your looking at but I have a Roland VersaCamm and therefor use VersaWorks and its all pretty straight forward.

Also get a membership around here it’s the best investment like Drew said. I’ve picked up so many things which have let me offer more to my clients and not only that save me from making costly mistakes.

    Jason
