  • Thinking of buying an industrial sewing machine

Some quick questions for all you out there that are more experienced than me.
Seeing a recent increase in our banner sales I’ve been pondering the idea of buying an industrial sewing machine. Up to now we mostly use tape, but have been told by a collage that sawing is always best in terms of tolerance as well as looking better. The machine has to help us with sewing banners together as well as for doing channels.

What are your thought on it?

Simon you may want to edit your title. I thinking you mean a ‘Sewing’ machine. Sawing is what you do to cut wood.

    Hi Simon

Funnily enough I posted something the other day about this kind of thing.
I was just coming in to update the post.

We got a sewing machine for just this reason and found that we just couldn’t get on with it.
So I was looking for alternatives in the form of glue.

I have found it in the last couple of days.
HH-66. It’s brilliant stuff, it sticks vinyl to vinyl with a very strong seal.
This is what we are going to do from now on when we want to make a banner with seams or a scaffold banner.
I just tested a piece and hung my entire weight on it from a nearby scaffold, that was within an hour of applying the glue!

I’m not sure what the policy is on here for giving suppliers numbers out though.

    ROB?

    Regards

    Tim

I’m not sure I understood you 100%. What do you mean by "couldnt get on with it"?

    Hi Simon

Well we are a bunch of guys so we were rubbish in the first place!
The main problem in fact was the material is so slippery the machine couldn’t feed it. Of course you might have a much better machine mate, so I wouldn’t go too much by my experiences. After all we have a company over in Bristol who sew banners for us when we need it, I’m sure their machines are far more superior.

    Tim

PS we got the HH-66 from Bainbridge International in Southampton.

not a problem Tim, anyone can recommend anyone as long as its not themselves, their company or they are in no way connected to the supplier or their product.

have you considered the leister banner welder or the cyclone tape hemmer simon?

to be honest i think the tape hems "look" better than the stitched.

tape hems do look good on banners but if you roll the banner i have found that the tape puckers and you loose that nice smooth look. Stitching just does not look right on a digital banner. I have a sail maker come anything PVC local who stitches banners for some of the biggest supermarkets etc so is well experienced. i think his last order was a 1000 3mtr square banners, but stitching i think just ruins the look of the banner.
We don’t design banners with a margin but i think the sewing basically puts the design in a frame & in my opinion it doesn’t work. Interested in trying Tims suggested product going to order some on Monday and i’ll try & post the results. Got 16 x 3mtr x 610 banners going over to France so would be a nice result if it works

    Kevin:
do you have a homepage for Bainbridge International in Southampton. I can’t find them.

    Rob:
I’ve seen similar machines over in FESPA (Amsterdam) but I honestly can’t say that we have that much of production at the moment to make it worth the investment. But thanks for the tip anyway.
