    Hi All

Customer wants a new board for his swing sign but he wants something very chunky about 40 – 50mm thick and it needs to be black (Matt) and not overly heavy for obvious reasons.

Any ideas if there is something existing I could use or would I have to build it up?

And what material would you recommend?

He wants it as simple as possible (no fancy edges or anything)

    Thanks

    Warren

Unless there is a lightweight material about at 50mm thick you could fabricate it out of anything, maybe exterior MDF, and then paint it. Of course the lighter it is, the more it will swing about. It would be easy to make a box out of foamex, for example, but then you need some structural strength to fix to.

    Hi Andy

Thanks, that’s exactly what I was asking 😉

Is there anything out there 50mm thick?

There are many ways I could make it up but thought I would try find out if there is something already.

I can wrap the edges of a made up foamex box with a flat ali panel and also use it for the fixings.

    cheers

What about making one from aluminium composite.
Just rout all the bend lines and fold it to form a box.
You could use corner sign brackets from JAG Signs and even add some weight in the bottom to stop it blowing about too much.

I use a foam and fibreglass sandwich board, I usually blag a bit from one of my customers who builds insulated trailers. it is about 50mm thick,
needs a bit of timber round the edge to finish but does the job perfect. dont know where you would get a small piece though, what size do you need?
The other way is to get 2 panels from http://www.glasplas.co.uk and have them bond them together,

    Thanks Guys

David might be on to something

Peter, It is small so that might be difficult to find. I was thinking about bonding a few panels of something together but not sure what.

Maybe there might be some way of making some sort of Dibond box with an aluminium frame.

    Thanks guys

saw this today and thought a good neat way and clean and simple edges.

I would say its 2 aluminium trays back to back with wooden panels inside to attach to and drive hooks in the top?

Anybody done one of these before?

    cheers
