  • The “Official Sign UK” thread….

Posted by Robert Lambie on March 17, 2006 at 8:21 pm

Sign UK is approaching soon and i would like to start the “Official SignUK” thread….
By that i mean nothing more than…

“Could we keep every reply or thought regarding the show to this thread please???”

To begin with i would like to organise the initial meet at the show.

As with previous shows we would meet at a desired stand.

This year, I would like to nominate the Europoint Display stand. I say this for no other reason than Europoint Display was the First Supplier to become an official supplier to the UKSG over 4 years ago….

I would also like to make day 2, the day of the meet. Allowing those who wish to stay overnight, meet up with the rest of us at a location/ Hotel to be announced.

The meet at the show will be at 1pm at the Europoint Display stand.
I will speak with Europoint, asking them to arrange some sample bags of products on offer reserved for the group. Members should be able to collect these when we all meet up.
From the stand we will make our way to the bar area… were heavy drinking, slagging off of members profile pictures, hard yanks at peoples thongs, causing burning in a sore wedgey ritual while the odd gasp of just how tall is Rob Lambie!… (No, it is not a myth i do have some snow on the top of my head, yep… i’m that tall!)

Anyway… from the bar area, around 5pm we will depart. There will be an official UKSB coach available to take our members (Free of Charge) to our hotel.
From here we will have a few drinks, a meal afterwards followed by some yacking down toilet seats, embarrassing dances / songs, singing and hopefully not much more?
As the night goes on, many will retreat to their rooms for rest, as those lone survivors march on into the night, starry eyed, shouting Waite for me!, as they pee aimlessly against a wall up an alley in the chilly cold night.

Next morning, the UKSB Coach will return all official members to the sign show for day 3. Complete with baggage and hangovers….

If anyone would like to join us overnight, please contact me at admin@uksignboards.com stating how many rooms, or seats needed on the bus?
any questions regarding the above, please use the same contact details…

I will reply to you a.s.a.p.

in the mean time… i look forward to any discussion regarding the show, the hotel, the goings on into the night or even…. well even whatever you come up with….

just a quick question please rob, i’m thinking of coming over to the uk for the sign show, is there alot their? i mean are their lots of stands or is it quite a small affair? would be nipping over for a few days and am just woundering if its worth it. would be interesting though i think.

Rob it looks like you are aiming at on off complex hotel then.
The bus is a good idea, and nice of you to provide it but, I can see a few problems.
for those that arrive by car they would either have to go to the hotel first to park, or park in the nec and return next day so thats a heavy cost?
We would be restricted to times of the coach travel, so if anyone wanted to have a lay in the next day or not return to the complex its again a problem if your car is not in the same place as you..

I think the get together at the show is great, but the night will develop as things take their course, So many variables for so many diverse characters, to strike a happy medium is hard. I would say…

all meet as suggested, then just let it happen :funky:

I think that there should be a meet for every day, l couldn’t make the show last year on the day that everyone got together so l missed out. What about a meeting point for every day?

Matt, its quite a large show, the digital side seems to have the most prominence, if you are looking to buy equipment, it may give you the chance to see different makes in action, and talk pros and cons with the makers/dealers. you can click on signuk on the main page to get an idea off the exhibitors etc.

Hope you can make it though, its really great to meet up with the “real” person

My friend Catherine and I will be there, 1pm sounds good
(is there a time difference between Glasgow and Birmingham?)
And we will have to fly back home before we turn into pumpkins,
so I doubt I can take the bus unless someone can give us a lift back to the airport.
I did register for SignUk thru this site, so I hope I get a name badge.
Otherwise nobody will know who I am.

just to confirm, what are the dates ? i did apply for tickets, or certainly put my name on a list of some kind, but i haven’t heard anything since, i’ll most likely only be up for the day, unless i tie it in with collecting my rebuilt engine from crewe, i could possible shoot to crewe in the evening, stop overnihgt and head back down for the morning,

so, dates please ? and i forget, cost of entry ? of is it free ?!!

    thanks.

I park in the NEC car park and catch the shuttle bus to the show or walk depending on how close I am. Last year I think it cost about £5 to park.

    £7.50 to park 😮

Free entry, if you register beforehand: you get through quicker, plus special offers others don’t get (I think)

afraid funds won’t be stretching to much Rob, might only be once a year, but just to much going on around here, fat mortgage for one ! so as much as ‘d love to stop at the hotel etc, i think i’ll just be up for the day, maybe the next day on return from crewe, i think !

Ok passes have arrived.. . I travellled by train last year so was able to have a drink at the bar. . .Just went to book my train tickets for this year, only to be told I can’t get a train to Birmingham NEC from London anymore ! ! !

I have to get a train to solihull then a bus. .. and its going to cost me more than some of you lot are paying for flights !

This Country is a Joke ! . . . so looks like I’ll be driving up and drinking lemonade !

    Hi Dave,

I’m sure there are direct trains from London to the NEC, its a main route. Have a look at Virgin trains, search London Euston to Birmingham International. Not sure on costs though, presumably it varies depending on travel times.

    Good luck,

    Debbie

    just booked trains this minute….

last night it was cheaper! Check out the two single fares, for once its reasonable to go by train then car!

my train bill is £48, but atleast I wont be driving.

ok didn’t want to drive but as two of us are travelling its more cost effective. . £20 diesel + parking opposed to £80.00 on the train !

Got my pass, are we all wearing a red carnation or something so we can recognise people from UKSB otherwise I will end up chatting to some complete stranger or some nutter off the street. For some reason my daughter says I will talk to anyone about anything 😮

we should have all had UKSB t-shirts. .. an army of peeps walking around with UKSB on their back might have helped with future discounts from the trade. What was the last count. . . how many people from the boards are going ?
