    Hi all 🙂
Firstly, Im a canvas printer (photos on canvas etc)

So, a lady got in touch via ebay to ask for a bespoke canvas of her and her future hubby with the lyrics to ‘Metallica’s – Nothing else matters’ on it.

She sent me the image (black and white) and we got to designing and proofing it via e-mails. Throughout the whole process we’re both very civil to eachother and struck up a nice rapport.

The time comes for me to print the canvas and I duly send it off to her. It looked awesome and I told her this in the mail to accompany "the reveal" when she gets it.

She receives the canvas but then sends me a mail saying that she’s very upset and basically the canvas is nothing like what we’ve proofed between us. The complaint was that Ive lost all the detail in the faces of her and future hubby and that ive also completely lost all the shades of grey etc!

Im baffled by this and explained that I only printed what she sent me which was a 300dpi original file direct from the photographer. The clarity was incredible and I had printed the canvas on the highest quality setting so I knew that that the print was A1. She replied that she was sorry for the complaint but was adamant that the whole image was wrong! Now in 2 and half years of canvas printing Ive never had 1 complaint or even the slightest iota of a disgruntled customer, so this was puzzling me even more. I knew the canvas Id sent was fine, unless i had beer goggles on that day!

I asked her to return the canvas asap because there was a deadline to meet for her to present it to her future hubby.

Then I go the return mail today!…..

This is verbatim/copied from her mail to me this afternoon 🙂

    Hi Dave

I am afraid I have some serious, serious grovelling to do… Please don’t hate me but… I think I might have gone into panic mode for nothing.

When I first looked at the canvas (still in bubble wrap!) I couldn’t see what I expected to so I didn’t unwrap it further (you can see where I’m going with this…) in case I needed to return it – as you have requested below – so that I didn’t damage it.

I took it to my mums house this evening and removed the wrapping (at her suggestion) and hung it on a wall and you are right, it is so perfect. I am so sorry to have commented before I even looked at it properly, I didn’t think that bubble wrap would make so much difference but it actually makes a hell of a lot of difference and for future reference if any idiot comes back to you saying what I did I would suggest that you ask if they have removed the bubble wrap before you make any further comment 🙂

I really, truly am sorry and I hope I haven’t inconvenienced you too much.

    Forgive my stupidity?

    lmfao! oh dear… 😛 😛

Its like buying a new shirt and saying you dont like it even though its still in the plastic bag!

Anyone else have a customer story like this? It made my day that the canvas wasnt faulty but in the meantime it had me totally 2nd guessing myself as to what Id done wrong lol.

Be cool all, and please take it out of the wrapper before saying you dont like it 🙂

    Dave.

I was once fitting signs to the side of a taxi. It was all cut vinyl. As I worked the customer was looking on and I could tell he wasn’t happy. I started explaining that I always level the lettering to the bottom of the door so if he thinks it was looking "squint" he was not to worry – they always look lop sided up close due to the angle of the front window. Still he was not happy and I moved to the other side and began applying the vinyl to the other door. I promise you (I said) if you stand well back and look at the lettering you will see it’s level – it’s only up close it looks wrong. …Still I could sense he was not happy. Bugger it (I thought), I know what I’m doing and they’re on now so he’ll have to get used to it.

I then returned to the first door and begun to remove the application tape. Suddenly a big smile spread across his face. He obviously hadn’t realised that the application tape came off 🙄

lol, i had that a while back, the customer came to collect a little early, i’d messed up a bit so was in the workshop quickly cutting another bit (well… 4 letters), he came down to the workshop, and began telling me the colours all looked ‘opaque’ and ‘wishy washy’ om some of the decals, i must be honest… i did panic a little, couldn’t understand what he meant until i asked him to show me! it was only cut vinyl, so there was a big square of tape over the letters, how he didn’t twig i have no idea!

Thats a very funny story David. Aren’t customers the strangest people! :lol1:

I had a similar story to Phil too. I was asked to supply computer cut decals to a guy who saw no resaon to pay me to fit them, as ‘any idiot’ can stick them on.

Fine I said, no skin off my nose. I use clear app tape at the time because I had a little bit left on a roll, and saw the opportunity to get rid of it.

That was ages ago, and I saw the car on the road the other day, and he’s left the clear app tape on over the sticker. Its gone yellow now. Probably explains why he’s never come back. Probably tells his mates I’ve supplied dud material 😕

Looking at work through bubble wrap and transfer tape? This is why I try to never have customers see work before it’s finished (not that this would have helped with the bubble wrap lady).
I was painting decorative work & lettering on the outside of a shop. It was a 4 day job, and on the 3rd day I got an e-mail from the owner saying it didn’t somehow look finished. Well duh…it wasn’t finished.
They come out and get that look on their face that says "this isn’t at all what I had in mind" and it knocks you off your game, then a bit later they’re telling you you’re fantastic – once you’ve had a chance to finish the job.
