tax disc holdersPosted by R Ferguson on 9 August 2007 at 11:41Hello, I have been given a printed tax disc holder which has been printed on both sides of the vinyl. How is that done? There are quite a few garages around me and it would make sense to be able to produce these – if i can find o how many thanks Robert Ferguson David Lowery replied 18 years, 2 months ago 10 Members · 16 Replies

Robert…. Is the print definitely on both sides?? …..it isn’t just printed in reverse so it reads right from outside & then printed normally so it reads right inside??

The sticker is white vinyl, with printing on both the non sticky and the sticky side. Robert Ferguson

The Gerber edge can do double sided prints in one go. or you can reverse print onto clear then laminate with printed white vinyl – will probably need a middle layer of silver to block out.

Hi, Martin, how does the Edge print both sides at once ? Are these tax disc holders just plain circles of vinyl or do they have the additional ‘cross cut’ section on the inner side to place the disc in ? I too would be very interested in how this is done as I have a client seeking them and was considering either pad printing or hot foiling them. Hmmmm – (-) Saph

There is a very good description posted by someone on here somewhere. I thought I had saved it to my comp but can’t find it?? Tried searching but with no luck. G

With the Edge you would print on to clear to show one side then print white print the white again so from one side you see one print then on the back you will see the other one I think 😕

Aaaah thanks Nick. Blimming great big books you get with this machine / software ~ still ploughing my way through them 😮 Saph :dance4: ( maybe I should stick to the banjo ? ) hehe

You can build up the layers with the edge ie double sided no smoking sign for example print onto clear
 red prohibition
 black cigarette
 overprint white
 overprint silver
 overprint white
 overprint red prohibition
 overprint black cigarette
The problem is that there are two prints of white, red, black and the edge deal with them as one, so you have to fool the edge into thinking it is printing another colour, so-
make the second print of white another colour ie green but when asked for green put in the white, do the same for the second black and red(obviously using different unused colours)
It can take a while to get your head around this and setting correct overprints are essential. This is off the top of my head, but the process is right.

Once printed, you still have to put adhesive on it folks.

Really ? I thought that Nick meant you would have the image initially printed in reverse so seen through the ‘sticky’ side to the outside of the window, and then build up a solid background layer and print on top of that which would be viewed from the inside ? I am easily confused though. Saph

Maybe? I assume if that is the case, then the tax disc would stick to the plastic and then both disc and plastic thrown out at the end of the year. Could work? Peter

Guys!
There silk screen printed onto clear!First print is reversed, then white opaque, then printed again on the back of the disc. Hope this helps.

thats how i would have done them….but Robert says they are definitely white vinyl with print on both sides Sounds like they must be a substrate similar to vinyl…printed front & back & then the adhesive applied after. I suppose that way it could be just a one colour print (rather than adding the white)

Why not reverse print onto clear then laminate the clear with printed white vinyl?
