Hi folks I am sure this topic has been discussed before but here goes anyway…… When printing a long print ( 20 or 30 ft) and it is going onto the take up unit on the versacamm, when finished is it safe to leave it to outgas on the core or should i unroll it and store it rolled up loosely

    Hi Claire

I haven’t got the luxury of a take up roller but I know it has been asked on the boards before. The answer if I remember correctly was yes it OK to out gas on the roller but make sure it is loosely wound and if possible a fan directed to blow down the roll is recommended.

PS sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong

I think the best way to let printed films out gas is to lay them down on the table or hang them on some sort of bars. That way the fumes can easily leave the film and the film is out gassed properly. if it is winded on a core it doesn’t have enough air to out gas the fumes and they stay in the film. probably this can be done that way but i think it will take longer time to out gas. Versacamm uses Eco-solvent which are not harmful to ones health as solvents are so you can keep them inside your working area. solvent printed inks require that you isolate them in separate non-working area because solvent inks are much more aggressive to health. hope this helps you

Haven’t had a problem yet!! 😀 with leaving long prints(20-25ft) on our take-up reel. 😀

I do it all the time. Don’t have a problem over night. But if I take the core off the take up roller I leave it standing upright.

From memory solvents are heavier then air so they drop to the ground.

I do find banner material wants to stick to itself tho. So I unwind that loosely.
