supplier please of window tint/one way vinyl?
Posted by Alistair Richards on 22 November 2006 at 17:28Hi All,
Just finished a building project, and the customer has people overlooking them, so they want a window and a door covered with a vinyl that they can see out of, but nobody can see in. Is it window tint vinyl like used for cars, or some sort of one way I am looking for. Can anyone reccommend please and a supplier. And also, presumably this is safe to apply, coz i’ve read the threads on here about vinyl cracking glass, the areas are 800mm x 900mm, and 630mm x 1610mm.
Thanks for you help :lol1:

Talk to Phil Baker at Johnson Window films in Southampton – top bloke and good company to deal with. http://www.johnsonwindowfilms.co.uk/
tell him Craig sent you (and he’ll add 10% 😉 )

make sure that you make them aware it will only give daytime privacy.
if they have lights on when dark outside people will be able to see in!

Like Micjeal says – the one-way mirror relies on it being darker on one side than the other.
In daylight it’s darker inside…at night, put the lights on and the room occupants will have a nice mirror…the public get a good look in!

ps. You could try (perforated vinyl) contra-vision as an alternative.

Sorry for not pointing that out just trying to be helpful with a supplier that I’ve got a lot of time for…Just a thought if you don’t have a to bigger area to cover; I know when people have tinted security huts that they have put spot lights above the windows (external) so that the guards cannot be seen inside at night time. (Keeps the light balance even and the mirror effect on the film).

Don’t know much about window tint, but a company called Sun Guard have a nice big selection of stuff.

hope this helps

the only thing is that they are in usa!
there is a UK company called bonwyke that stocks it though….
-
we have been using bonwyke for years now. lots of different types available.
-
they do a film called optitune15. we use it quite a bit.
it is silver one the sticky side, but tinted on the internal face to give less internal reflection at night/ low light levels.
however still needs to be darker on the observation side though.
make sure the door is not a fire door with wired glass in it. NOT suitable as is the case with most window films.

Thanks you guys, all very helpful stuff. :lol1: :lol1: :2thumbs:

Bit late now for reply on this topic, but still, here goes…
We’ve got this tinting on our shopfront windows. As mentioned, at night YOU see a mirror when looking in the window, everyone outside got a unrestricted fiew of you (makes me feel like an Amsterdam "amusement" lady!). After working late the last couple of weeks, we recently had an attempted break-in. First time in many, many moons. We can only assume somebody saw computers, router, laser engraver, racks of beutiful coloured things etc. one night, and decided to have a go…
Also used "contra vision" in the past. Can be screen / digital printed. There was a cheaper imitation of this as well (worked fine) but I forgot the name. As far as I know, there is an adhesive-less product similar to contra vision as well. Can be used to make roll-up blinds etc.

films such a solar gard silver 20 would do the job during the day but at night the range of vision would differ and you would see in as mirror effect would revrse. one way of stopping this would be to fit flood lighting to the outside – best performance is when balance of light is 70% to the side which you require reflection.
