Supplier help, foam board and dibond to the Highlands
Posted by Kevin Busby on 4 April 2016 at 14:25Hi Guys
Having recently moved from Devon to the top of the Scottish Highlands the one thing im really struggling with is to find a sheet supplier. Amari have been a good help but cannot seem to get it further up than Aberdeen area.
Does anyone know of anyone further up maybe Inverness or perhaps one of you already up this way have a supplier you can pass on. Would be very grateful of any pointers on this, don’t mind paying the extra just need to find someone that can do it at a sensible amount.
Thanks for looking in
Kev

Kevin – where are you? Check with Amari again as I think they used to deliver to Inverness.

Hi Neil
Im just short of Wick KW3 another 100miles from Inverness but I will speak to them again, its always worth a try. I mentioned Inverness mainly because if supplier was based their the delivery cost would be marginal.
Thanks

Aye you’re well up there Kevin! 🙂
I’m in Tain but most of my work is engraving so I seldom use foam or any 8×4 sheets these days. Robert Horn in their day used to run their own transport up here and I think probably up to Wick too but nobody now as far as I know. I did speak to Amari a while back and I’m sure they told me thy deliver to Inverness. I think it may have been free delivery at that time too.
Let me know how you get on

If your passing anytime your more than welcome to stop by for a cuppa.

Hi kev,
I’m in Aberdeen and have used selectaplas for sheet material which they delivered by m & h carriers and I know they go up to your area so may well be worth a shot.
Cheers

Thanks Graeme and Robert

Yea will do. M&H are fine and do go right up north, but you may still incur fairly hefty charges. Anything beyond Inverness is considered offshore! :shake:

Hi Neil
Yes im finding it with some and not others, really strange some suppliers don’t quiver at it and yet others talk like your on another planet and they have to organise Nasa to get the goods to you LOL.
Just waiting on Europoint to return my email and then ill start on some of the other names mentioned.

Yes, sometimes with new suppliers (of any kind) they’ll tell you anything on the phone and then when it comes to time to dispatch they’ll call you up to say – oh by the way we’ve just realised you’re offshore and this is going to cost big time! I had a company where I placed an order for a small belt for a machine – approx. 100mm dia. A glorified rubber band. Was costing £7 and they wanted £18 to deliver. In the end they agreed to send it by post in an ordinary envelop. Your post code (I think) resolves to the Orkney Islands which makes things worse for you.

Hi Neil
Full Postcode is KW3 6BJ its coming up right for me but wouldn’t surprise me with some of the shipping systems suppliers use if it did come up as Orkney.
It would probably be cheaper to have everything delivered to someone in Aberdeen and then hire a van to drive down to get it, would also please the the family as we can stop at KFC lol, amazing what you miss most hehe.

As far as I can make out some carriers use the outer part. KW resolves to Kirkwall, Orkney 🙁 If you’re getting big loads then you may be able to press them on it. It’s getting worse instead of better.

Just a quick update for the ones who asked me to let them know.
I’ve tried pretty much everyone and whilst foam board was not a problem if willing to take in smaller pieces it always fell down when we came to 8 x 4 sheets or dibond.
I’m not going to mention prices but having reflected on everything the only company who can put it all together at a price not a huge amount (£2 a sheet) more than I was paying back in Devon is Europoint. Their price was reasonable and their delivery charge for up here was very realistic and competitive for a pallet delivery. Having also gone over a couple media prices as well it looks like they will also be getting some of that business as well.
Thanks everyone for your input and help, ill update when ive had chance to experience Eurpoint’s customer service but its looking good so far.

Found europoints service quite good here in Manchester.
I’m very dubious though of their prices, as they smashed prices were paying… and I like to think I get keen prices.
