  • Super quality application tape.

Whilst fitting the sublime item to the left of the picture, I noticed the “Lunch box” text on the shop next door. This has been up for at least 10 years but what struck me was the fact that the clear application tape is STILL stuck to the letters. You can see where it has curled back on the right. Perhaps it was knocking off time and the fitter was a stickler for time keeping?

By the way, I fitted the Pizza lightbox on my own because I am superhuman (or mental).

Nice work Big G 😀 Can I take bets on how many swear words you used? 😉 Really smart sign though, credit to you!

Must’ve been a self-apply on the lunchbox, either that or the signmaker got caught short and forgot to finish the job 😀

    Cheers, Dewi

Thanks Dew, I was very impressed with the illumination of the translucent vinyl. Customer was chuffed. In fact I will shortly be putting another lightbox over the Lunch Box text.

Did you do the etching at the bottom of the window as well?

    😆 😆 😆 excellent mate.. thanks for showing 😉

i had staff that liked to knock off right on time. so much so, one night they came back and said they had forgot our generator. i found out the next day the generator was 50 yards up a yard and they couldnt be bothered to go and get it because they were running late to get back and catch their bus! 😮
we went back next morning to find the £500 generator had gone walkies 😮 “and the say all i do is moan at them?” 👿

lightboc sign looks great mate.. if i am right, that is a bullnose sorta trim around that box? i have been using a few of these over the last few months. i think they give an excellent finish to a lightbox & very easy to load the perspex.. i found it pretty hard to mitre accurately though.
fitting that alone? yes you are mental… 😉 😆 😆
are you serious? if so did it come in two sections? 😕

Blimming nice job however it was applied Andy! Love the design as well, it looks far too classy to be a takeaway though 😉

Can I do a Dewi and ask how much you charged for this kind of work? And roughly how long did the etch take? So many questions, so little time 😉

    Cheers, Dewi

Yes, I lied a bit. The whole thing is 5.2m made from 2 2.6m sections. Once the first fixing was in it was easy. Plus it was a slimline box (117mm) which is very lightweight. I think the perspex was heavier than the box. Kestrel slim boxes come with a slightly rounded removable trim which looks a bit prettier than a dead square frame. I must say, I see a lot of lightboxes with regular non-translucent vinyls on. I used the right stuff and the colour and brightness is fantastic. It aint worth skimping on the materials when the right stuff gives such a good result.

Edit having read Dewi’s post. Lightbox about 750 squids. 2 etched windows 75 squids each. Fitted the lightbox in 2 hours and the 2 windows in an hour.

top notch stuff mate.. looks great illuminated. is it all translucent vinyl on opal perspex, or roueted and inlays?
glass etch works great too mate.. still think your nuts fitting that on your todd.. 😕 😉

Rob, it’s all translucent vinyls on opal. I did include a bleed between the red and blue but hopefully the vinyl should be pretty stable and no shrinkage will occur anyway. The bleed creates a slight dark line but it looked OK.

yeh.. just wondering mate. i think the vinyl on perspex is the most cost effective way of doing it these days. i would have done the exact same as you. a bleed on the vinyl is always best route for lightboxes also.

    nice work..

Nice looking job mate 😀 Looks like you did a neat job of the centre join too – I always hate trying to make those look good on vinyl/opal light boxes.
