Summa DMP-69C Blade holder
Posted by Doug Steedman on 21 September 2010 at 16:44Was wondering if anyone knows where I might find a Blade holder for a DMP-69C plotter/cutter in the UK?
Im thinking it going to be pretty difficult to get one so have been thinking of alternatives such as a drag knife/holder in the pen holder assembly or possibly manufacturing a replacement holder on my lathe/Milling machine.
any ideas or thoughts gratefully received, and yup I know I should probably buy a new machine but funds are limited 🙂

strewth you still have one running top marks.
my first roll feed plotter i was looking for some old stuff the other week and found the pen holder for it.
if you have a milling machine i would make your own as i don’t think the houston has the firmware to drive a swiveling blade correctly.
but out of interest what is wrong with the old as i can’t remember whats to go wrong with them.or you could ring the summa dealers see if there is any old stock.

Hi Chris,
the blade holder is missing, bought the unit from ebay.
I emailed summa to ask if they could help but had no response, cant say I blame them as they do state they dont offer support for this machine any more.I reckon I will probably end up having to make something to do the job, Im a real newbie to this so basically im just using this as way to learn a new skill without investing too much cash until I am confident its a viable addition to my workshop.
appreciate your input

Well Parcelforce finally managed to get the cutter to my local sorting office where I had to go pick it up as they had nobody to deliver it.. on top of which its been dropped and was rattling around in its packing and is therefore damaged.
I also found a small plug (like on CDrom drive) with a couple of wires sticking out jammed in the cutter head unit…but only after it had powered up and gave a nice little "pop" followed by the waft of expensive smoke.
So now its dead…has 4 static red LEDs shining on the control panel, I looked at the head assembly PCB and theres a burnt out resistor, all the other components test ok with the multiMeter.
Ive traced this back to the Head unit stepper driver board and 2 of the 3 stepper driver chips (UC3717N) are reading different to the other one
so Ive ordered up a couple…worth a try!!I have no idea of the value of the burnt out resistor and have been trying to find a circuit diagram with no luck so far…Ive emailed everywhere I can think of.
Anyone out there have such a thing?
Kindest regards

that’s a bummer to be honest i would claim your money back a place it in the bin
just found this
http://www.bladesforplotter.com/p_prd.a … =159&i=207
you won’t like the price
told a fib mine was a dmp66 and have just found the service manual for it.
the circuit diagrams are very poor quality and can’t read them
4 solid lights is different for a 66 and 65 so may be different again for a 69for a 66 it says reload default EEPROM values

Hi Chris,
ouch… for what it is thats pretty expensive, Im pretty sure I can make one but thanks anyway for giving me a heads up.
Yes its looking more and more like a "bin" job, oh well it was only so I could try it out and make some stencils and masks for sandblasting and maybe do some graphics for my engineering projects.
Ive done a bit of Sign making in the past but mostly using a Router and a self built CNC table or freehand,
I have been meaning to try Vinyl cutting for a long time so I will probably look out for another machine 🙂kindest regards

Thanks again Chris
Im actually watching a Roland camm1 at the moment 🙂 appreciate it very much if you let me know if you get any more info regarding the ones you know about.
happy to offer any advice or help I can regarding building a CNC router though I dont profess to be an expert 😉

Hi again Chris
apologies right off for being slightly off topic in the Summa forum, just bought a Roland camm-1 pnc1100 so I guess Im going to head over to the Roland forum 🙂
Need to track down a manual and find out the best place to get blades
Kindest regards
Doug.
