I looked into the DC2, DC3… always fancied one, but that was just before the versacamm/cadet boom! I thought they had to be the way to go after the edge printer as it had the width needed but was still a thermal machine. what i would expect to go against it these days would be speed, running costs and perhaps parts over the next few years? by that i mean, will they discontinue you the machine parts like we see happening with the Roland PC60/600 and the like?

The reason i was looking into it was due to the nature of my business, which is seasonal for this type of work and if i got something like a versacamm it would be stood around from may until sept without use and from what ive read could cause all sorts of problems. And getting an engineer out to where i live would be another massive prob. Would i be right in thinking that a thermal machine wouldnt need the same level of maintenace than a solvent?

It certainly would have ink issues as such mate because its a ribbon it works on to create the print.

if the work would be shutting down for a long period of time you only have to stick in 4 flush carts and flush the ink. its all automated you just put the carts in and type in some setting, the machine does the rest. from then on the tubes etc are all clear. i would guess a couple of other minor things need done when closing the machine down for months on end but its no big deal. once done its done… the issues that come about are normally the solvent in the ink causing bother or the ink solidifying/gell’ing over time. but your flushing that…
personally ide speak to a roland rep and see what they have to say… but i recon your better going the versacamm route if its just the shut down period thats the issue.
