Student Edition X5
Posted by Richard Such on 13 March 2012 at 11:57As per title, does the SE have all the tools and functions?
Some say yes, others say no, just wondered which is correct?!
🙄**EDIT** Just re-read this and it sounds dodgy as!!
My nephew is at uni and he wants to start using it, was worried it wouldn’t have all the features!

Doesn’t look any better with the Nephew bit added to be honest but as far as the software goes it should be fully featured but just at a reduced cost becuase it is only supposed to be used as a training aid.

I’m not sure the student edition has VBA – not an issue if you don’t want to use macros, some cutting utilities require VBA

Excuse my ignorance but what is VBA? I’ve suggested Corel to him as I’ve found it pretty nice to work with in the past, I’d imagine VBA is not something he’d need to get going with the basics of design!?!?

Surely if he is doing a course at Uni then they should be making him aware of what software he will require for the course. It shouldn’t really be down to what someone else finds good to use.
Sorry can’t help with the VBA question as I am not a corel user.

VBA/Visual Basic for Applications is a programming language that allows Corel to be manipulated in many ways, mainly to create shortcuts to common tasks.
VBA scripts are available online for fees and most commonly here is programs like Graphtec’s Cutting Master (which drives Graphtec plotters) which is made up on some VBA scripts and pure program code.
Some editions of Corel does not come with VBA installed or has the option of choosing it upon installation, so therefore people have wasted their money if they are trying to get it working with a cutting plotter.

You’re dead on I always buy the full version with documentation as the product comes with tons of other stuff and the books do have some value
