Hi Kevin,
I take it you mean 37cm high?
I had to do a 6mtr long pinstripe and this is how I done it.
Apply application tape to the stripes, then with smaller pieces of masking tape tack the stripe in place at different intervals along the stripe. You can make sure its level by slowly moving one of the tacked bits up or down. Just work from your left to right.
Once this has been done apply masking tape to the bottom of the stripe and use the hinge technique.
Let me know if you need any more help.
Regards
Stephen

We don’t use application tape with stripes at all, what we do is measure and mark the line with a sharp HB pencil from one end to the other. Once you have done this run a line of masking tape all the way along the line, keep checking that the line is running true as you go and dont push down hard on the masking tape just sort of lay it along the line. You can then look along the masking tape line and make sure that it is straight all the way along. It should be if you have checked it as you went along, if it is not you can lift from the end and make any adjustments. When you are happy you can push the tape down onto the van properly and then use it as a guide to apply your vinyl. If your not confident you can apply wet and just slide the vinyl up to the edge of the tape although we prefer to apply them dry.
We have done stripes like this from 5mm thickness to about 200mm thickness withno trouble what so ever. -
Shouldn’t be to difficult to apply dry
Just measure and mark the substrate at both ends. This is the way I do it
Cut the stripe a little longer than required so that you can, along with another person, hold the end. As you pull (not excessively of course 🙄 ) the stripe taught it will take a straight line. I normally check the straightness like the chippy checks his timber by running my eye down at a certain angle. Trim off excess vinylSignwriters have for years used a simple snap line which is chalked, pulled taught and then with finger and thumb snapped to leave a straight line that no straight edge could master. We now use a low tack tape (a thin tape with low adhesion) which serves to give a clean edge to letters but also provides a good straight edge.
This low tack tape comes in a colour so is useful for when doing windows and an ordinary line is difficult to see through the glass thickness
Handovers stock this low tack tape in various widths .25mm .33mm. 50mm etc

why dont you get the vinyl supplyer to cut the 37mm off the roll.

Use application tape BUT,
use it in a way that you have a lot of application tape at each side rather than a thin flimsy piece. Once this is done, the strip will not go out of line as the width of the app tape is hoding it secure.
Hope this makes sense….

I would use the old hs15 sprocket fed machine to avoid any page length issues, run the 37mm stripe with a 60mm stripe butted up (delete one of the cut lines to avoid cutting through the backing paper) weed out the border, and transfertape as one piece, when you fit it, hinge along the top edge. stick it down, peel off the 60mm stripe.
