  • Strange shiraz rip problem (need a shiraz expert)

The version of Shiraz i have is v5.61, i know its a very old version by todays standard but i have not had a problem with it than i cant overcome until now.

The problem is i have been playing with the vuflex 540 3p profile on the user defined settings, When i print anything it shrinks the print by 50% BUT only in one direction… eg: if i print say a 1000mm in the Y direction (across the printer) thats ok but what is printed in the X direction is supposed to be 500mm turns out at approx 250mm.
Using the same profile at any of the non user defined settings everything is ok, i have checked everything and i’m at a loss at what do do 😮

    any ideas anyone ?

Yep, you need a newer version 😀

The problem you’ve got is going to be something along the lines of you have the profile set to a resolution that doesn’t correspond with the printers setup. Check all print options in the Process screen and make sure they are all set to the same as the profile you’re trying to use.

How are you finding modern day PDF’s with that version of Shiraz? Don’t tell me, faultless!!?? 🙄

Thanks for the advice Stafford, i will check that again when i have more time for messing with profiles.

The only problem i sometimes have with newer PDF’s is on cropping a section then sending to print when shiraz decides to shut down, there are one or two strange print issues sometimes But my workaround in all cases is to open up the PDF in Acrobat pro and resave the file backward compatible to v7

I can only suggest that the shutting down problem is to do with some sort of memory configuration. As long as you have a solution, that’s the main thing. Otherwise, try knocking the rasterizing buffer up in the setup but be aware that it can sometimes steal vital base memory from the operating system if you add too much, which will start making Windows unstable (or more unstable should I say 🙂 )

which bit shuts down, design or server?

i would say memory too… i never had shiraz shutdown like that.

Keep digging in the archives Dave, this is Shiraz v5!! No Design or Server here, It’s Process and Batching!! Remember that? Or have I been doing this too long 😳

It brings a whole new meaning to ‘Shiraz expert’ doesn’t it 🙂

You’re all pretty much there. It is the type of grape that’s made to make the wine we all know and it also means ‘city of roses’ in Persian apparently.
