    Hi,
We regularly print and crystal laminated vinyl in lengths of around 50m, when it comes to cutting and mounting the prints there is a massive amount of static that likes discharging through our bodies.
Can anyone give some advice on discharging static electricity from large vinyl prints and laminated rolls?

Do you have carpet down? Am told this makes it worse. Am not sure why. But it can effect printers as well according to Roland.

You do get a anti static spray from Grafityp. I bought once but we all fell about giggling so it’s sat in a tub since.. maybe something else was in the air.

One of the boys is has a serious static problem. Card machines won’t even work for him. It’s bizarre. It also brightens my day though when I hear the pops from the workshop. Sometimes 3 or 4 in a row.

    Hi Chris,
The floor is concrete and I think I might have the same problem as the lad that works for you.
You can see sparks come from me some days.
Never have problems taking card payments tho. Lol [emoji23]

On a serious note one thing that has helped.
We had one of those straight ages with a black handle on it. Constant shocks. So I went and bought a flat cheapy almost feels like metal one from B&Q and put some masking tape on the side touching the print. Seems to have made a difference. That and a anti cut glove

We have found it depends what shoes you wear. Trainers are bad work boots have a anti static sole which are good. My wife’s ugg boots if she helps mount a print are really bad I can hear the cracks and get a good laugh until she starts throwing things at me lol

this has had me chuckling as I remember the history lessons in the ‘new block’ in my school days, modern plastic seats and nylon carpet square flooring… rub your feet back and forth fast, lift them from the floor and touch your mate anywhere on bare skin and watch them jump, not only was the crack loud enough to get the teachers attention but you’d actually see the sparks!! Happy days!

I can’t be the only one that ever did that? 😆

Nope your not loved doing that, when the rooms darkened down to watch a video and you lift your feet and touch the metal support of the table with your thumb nail, massive crack and spark getting everyones attention but since its your nail no shock back.

Blimey now I feel old lol
