Static Cling does not cling – Any Ideas
Posted by Neil Fox on 26 March 2012 at 10:59Hi,
I have printed some static cling on my VS540 and the prints & cut are perfect. I tried a couple of the prints produced to make sure they clung to the rear window of my car. They were fine for a day, so I sent all 200 to the customer. They contacted me Friday to say that they started to fall off after a couple of days. They seem to have lost their static properties.
Has anyone else had a similar problem. What is the best way to regenerate the materials static properties?
Thanks for looking and the help.

It’s not static electricity that makes them stick – it’s air pressure. There’s nothing to fix. They couldn’t have been applied properly in the first place. Best way to ensure they stay in place is to wet the window before applying the film. Then ensure all the air and liquid is squeegeed out.

also they don’t like too much inked area.
also they will probably ring you in a few weeks and say the ink has stuck to the window.not had good experiences with cling as you might tell. 🙂

We rarely use white self cling any more – too many problems. We’ve gone back to
using clear with a white back-up. -

i have gone from loads of problems with white, to printing on clear vinyl and backing with white electrostatico, which worked well for a while but i have had a call that some of those have now failed.
A rep came into our office the other day with a new type of electrostatic paper? he left me some samples and it appears to work well. they are sending me a sample roll to do print tests. I cant remember for the life of me what its called, and it doesn’t appear on their website yet! When i receive the samples roll i will let you know what its called. Something like yuko??
it is supposed to be the electrostatic product we have all been waiting for!!

Thanks for the input guys.
Dan, very interested in your product, downloaded the pdf. I see that they don’t recommend its use in or on car glass.
I think I am going to lose out on this one with the customer.
Thanks again.

I told the customer to try the water. I have not had any feedback from them yet. I will post the customers feedback on the forum.
