    Hi,

I am currently starting up a sign business in the north east area. I already have a basic cutter and I can apply vinyl fairly well. I am just looking for a bit of advice on the following things.

-Which courses would be best to go to learn and advance my skills? i.e. vehicle wrapping etc.

-Can you recommend which printer to start with. I am thinking of getting a 50 inch printer. Would it be better to lease it or buy it outright for the first year?

Any other pointers and tips would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Billy

There’s a Roland SP300 in the for sale section. I don’t know that actual printer and can’t vouch for the condition but it is a very capable machine and an ideal printer to start out with.

    Good luck with it all.

I would say don’t buy a printer until you have built up enough work to be running it every day until then I would recommend farming it to a trade printer that way you can get on with getting more work and fitting because if you buy a small printer you will find you out grow it very fast plus you will need a laminator.

To continue from what Lee has said you can’t switch these printers on & off as you need them like a normal desktop inkjet. The ink will dry up & clog the heads meaning expensive repairs, you need a volume of work on a constant basis really before you look at buying. Some of the more modern machines do have a maintenance cycle for when not printing but it’s still costing you money as the ink ends up in the waste bottle.

For a wrapping course you won’t go far wrong with the one advertised on the front page (left hand side) of the forum.
