  • starting out in the trade which vinyl should i stock?

As we are just starting out, we are wondering which vinyl is used for what application.
Has anyone got a few basic rules we should stick to when chosing vinyl. We are staring off with the basic kind of jobs such as vehicles and signage.

    Cheers!! 😕

Does one already exist? or can someone help us out here.

For example, I’m confused about what material is used for stickers and window stickers (the stuff that you can screen print on).

    Look forward to your replies…

If you have samples from your suppliers … (paperco is great .. discounts for members also) 😀 usually on the swatches or in the colour chart/book etc there is usually always a description of what the vinyl is suitable for appliaction to 😀

Or am I being a bit dimb & your meaning/asking something completely different (?)

Window stickers if you mean car window static cling stickers?? you can buy the static cling material in clear or white or if you need self adhesive then you can buy the clear or white printable vinyl? Screenprinting ….. pass …… we print using our pc600 so not much help there 😮

Im sure someone will reply better than me …. I hope 😆

    Carrie 😀

*shaking head ………* Im not much help today am I 🙄 😆

I’m not sure I completely understand the question but here goes anyway … 😀

If your application is vehicle graphics and is not a blue chip company or general sign graphics I would use a “standard” mid term type vinyl like Mactac9800, Avery 700, Ultramark 5700, Oracal 751, 3M Scotchcal50 series etc. Check out the web sites of the various manufacturers for details and spec sheets, but these ranges tend to have a life span of 5-8yrs or so and are fine for most vehicles and general signage use.

If you have a particularly high spec or prestigious job then you can use a “cast” vinyl like Mactac6600, Avery 900, Oracal 851 etc which have a greater conformability and life span of approx 8-12yrs. These films are also the best to use if you need to heat vinyl into recesses or stretch over convex surfaces.

For window stickers/graphics I normally use either the mid term vinyls or if it is short term promotional thing then the economy range of vinyls like Mactac8900, Avery 500, Oracal 541, Ultramark 3500 etc.

The best thing to do as I say is to read up on the individual manufacturers sites for details. Hope this helps a bit !
