  • Starting out in signage….

Posted by Russ Draper on 11 December 2006 at 21:20

I have benn using my cutter solely for cutting designs for t-shirts and garments!

Now i want to progress into signage but Have no idea where to start, I have seen a few tutorial dvd’s on ebay and wondered if this would be a good starting block!

Anyone ever purchased one of these?

    Thanks

    Russ

Forget the DVDs an purchase a copy of "Mastering Layout" by Mike Stevens at http://www.signcraft.com/
Before you are capable of producing a sign you really need to know what the heck you are doing.
    It’s a whole different ballgame.
Just a heads-up from a 21-year veteran of the trade.

Best thing to do after buying Mike Stevens book would be to join this site. The tutorials on here are great and ‘real’. I have to rejoin, my Silver membership has just run out. Hey Rob do I get comission for signing this guy up? 😀

I bought one from eBay Russ and it has helped me get started.

it gave you a list of materials and tools and showed you how to use them to do various methods of application on different sign blanks, banners and even truck sides.

No mention of frames, supports, and fixings though.

This one was originally made in Canada, I think.

After saying all that however, I will be checking out the advice given by Jill there.
