Stage Backdrop
Posted by Harry Cleary on 12 November 2007 at 15:21I need to have two large stage back drops printed with a design, I was considering having these done in mesh banner as the client wants them easily assembled but durable. Anyone have any thoughts on this or suggestions for other media?

would a large format printed banner not be a cheaper option ?

We did one a few months back. it was a 3 metre wide printed roll-up banner stand. quality is excellent, the material is always protected when in transit and its assembled in minutes. banner material is the most durable and can be rolled but in transit they get creases and kinks in the material. they also have to find ways to hang it up behind them and so on… if it has to be wider than 3 metres you could always use two stands…
anyway, just an idea for you anyway… if not the stands ide use regular banner material. -
Hi Harry
We have designed some of thee in the past and have found that a decent polyester type material to be best.
You could try Prospect Design in Dublin for this – contact Mel and tell him you were talking to me – he might look after you.

this is one of those jobs where the customer has seen this done elsewhere but is very vague on actual dimensions and materials.
I posted elsewhere looking for a supplier of poles to hang ths on. Eventually after much trawling I found thesehttp://theatrequip.com.au/autopoles.htm
this is what he was talking about and will do the job up to a point I reckon…as long as the ceiling is not a suspended one.
Anyway….what I plan on doing is bungee chording the back drop to these poles.
We are talking 15 to 20 ft wide here……..and I thought it would be impractical to have a banner rolled at this size. Can mesh be folded without the same issues.?
And is there a huge price difference?
Thanks again -
Have a look at these companies – they seem to specialise in this type of project.

The system that I am aware of for suspending the banner is called ‘Pole and Drape’ which is typically used for American ehibitions.
