  • Spandex – Vinyl Remover Pro – Non Available

We’ve a fleet of 4 vans to strip and re-apply graphics to on Friday. We’re not doing this in our workshop but in the clients car park whilst the staff are being trained.

Having read about Spandex’s Vinyl Remover Pro I’ve just called to order 5L of the stuff, to be told they’ve non in stock and don’t know when they’ll have it in stock.

Does anybody know anywhere that sell’s it or a similar product?

Thinking it might be easier/quicker than using heatguns with limited power points.

    not sure i agree mate…
tried numerous and it tends to leave the adhesive gunky and messy.
that said, i have not tried the one in question. so you never know.

i know 3M do a vinyl remover. so it might be worth a call to Wm Smiths too.

Having seen this this post I thought I should let you know about our experience and the reason why spandex had ‘no stock’.

We too thought this sounded like a great product, so proceeded to order some for an upcoming wrap removal.

We used this on a Porsche cayenne, and although it seemed to come off very well we soon noticed some serious problems.

The product started to affect the laquer of the paint, leaving what looked like bubbles and runs on the surface of the car. Panic is not the word. We also noticed that it had destroyed the Porsche badges, practically melting the letters. it also ate into the plastic of the rear lights, leaving them looking dull and scratched instead of shiny.

Needless to say we stopped using and got straight onto spandex… They have taken this product off the shelf, Europe wide, until they have done further tests. We had a call yesterday from their call centre staff ( who obviously had no idea it was us who first reported the problem) telling us a new spec sheet was being sent out.

I tested this on some other items, like our own van and some powder coated metal in our unit…. Same thing, the areas where lettering on our van was looked raised, and run marks on laquer. Finish was affected on powder coated metal. I was left horrified by using this product, and nowhere on any labelling or spec sheets were there any warnings about how this could affect anything – until now, a new spec sheet has been issued.

    I have attached some pics.

    Use with caution!

That is shocking, and you’d trust spandex to test it thoroughly.

We stripped 4 white vans yesterday with the vinyl remover from solar signs. It didn’t ‘melt’ the vinyl but softened it, and was excellent at removing the small amount of glue residue.
