SP540-V pump to the latest model. Firmware update to 6.90
My SP540-V pump packed up after a year of faithful use as it slowly died over the last month. I’d say this kinda sucked…but obviously it didn’t.
Ordered it & it arrived direct from Roland.
A ‘how to’ made it all very easy, and so long as you can work a screwdriver the mechanical assembly side is nothing much to worry about.
Changing pump & motor mounts.Entering the service mode is not an issue if you are familiar with the sequence specific to your firmware version. (Up, Left, right etc…).
This is essential to REDUCE the effectiveness of the latest pump – as running it with your old firmware causes MASSIVE ink consumption (about 3-4 times normal) during cleaning cycles.
Firmware is easily & freely downloaded from Roland’s website, and it’s not just for when you upgrade the pump…anytime will do as it apparently contains some minor fixes and general improvements. I didn’t notice any..the sign of a good original build! Very simple EXE file that you address to the correct port or IP address if over your network. 30-40 seconds later and it’s all done.
Enabling the part of the service to the spec of the new pump requires you to enter the service mode again and alter a single setting…a new sequence of ups, lefts etc due to the revised firmware.
I know I’m not giving much away here with the service sequences, but I’d rather not be posting up a fully detailed guide as it’s a fairly public part of the forum.
All-in-all – an hours work taking my time and having a coffee! Works a treat now..and the new pump is a LOT quieter.
