Hi all, can anyone shed any light on an ongoing problem that i seem to be experiencing?

I have a Roland SP300, it is about 7 years old, not over worked but i seem to have a constant problem of one of the heads not printing…

If i run a print test then it prints yellow, magenta, black fine but the cyan seems to be printed in black….

Also if i print a sample of the colours, even when showing fine on the test print i am struggling to get it to print the actual cyan colour as a colour, if that makes sense?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

It sounds like the black ink is flowing into the cyan – this can happen if there is a slight leak on the cyan feed line (usually the damper). When the head is parked the leak allows the black ink to flow into the cyan. A head clean usually clears this temporarily but the cross contamination re-occurs next time the machine stands idle for any length of time.

I would try changing the cyan damper first.

Hi Phil, thanks for the reply.

I have tried numerous head cleans and am scared i may do some kind of damage if i continue.

Where is the best place to get a damper?

    Cheers

Try digiprint or tech 8 (links available on the main page of UKSB)

I wouldn’t have removed it until you had a replacement ready to fit in its place.

A powerful head clean should prime it again unless the leak is so bad it will only draw air

I have ordered a couple from Tech8, the cyan seems to be working now but the black damper seems to be empty and not filling up….

There must be an air leak

Do the dampers come with new seals too?

Any idea how quickly they may deliver?

You should get a next day delivery – the new dampers come with new seals

Morning, new dampers arrived bright and early.

Fitted new ones to black and cyan, but now i don’t seem to be able to refill the dampers, i have even tried the "pump up" selection

    Any suggestions?

    Sorted….

it appeared on closer inspection that the cyan damper wasnt sitting as low on the "spike" as it should and there appeared to be a piece of seal or something, which was promptly removed and the damper refit.

I then put a syringe on the pipe at the end of the capping station and drew back some pressure and hey presto the dampers filled back up.

Test print done and back up and running again.

    Cheers for the assistance.

Although saying that there is one more thing if i may?
I notice that there are a few nozzles missing from the black head, i see that tech8 are selling the heads at £540 but how hard are they to fit?

    Cheers

I’ve never changed a print head so can’t really comment. What I do know though is the head needs to be aligned once fitted so it’s not just a case of taking the old head out and fitting the new one in its place.
