Solvent Print – a couple questions.
Posted by Owen Lees on 27 April 2005 at 13:20Just a quickie…
Does anyone (or is there) have an idea whats a good generic cost per sq m price to charge colour printed vinyl out at?
We know what the costs are, but as ever when quoting sometime the market holds a better value than the costs + markup!
Also , has anyone experience in using solvent printers to produce unlaminated pull ups? Ideas on substrates would be useful.
Many thanks.

We can charge about £50 per square meter no problem. Some charge more some charge less. but anything from £40-£65 per meter is fine.

i agree, no less than £50 a square metre unless in mutiples.
we tend to not charge allot less for even trade prices, but make exceptions on certain orders. this could get long winded but you have to rememeber there is much more to it than pressing a button and watching it print. if being sold a machine sales folk skim over all this. multiples of the same print has good money in it, but dont forget finishishing/trimming etc.
pop-up stands are good money but why laminate? -

OwenNo need to laminate a pullup printed in solvent inks, adds to the expense, but not really required.
I use Vizon 440g gloss banner material for the ones I do. If I do them in paper tho, I will laminate for a longer life.
Can not help with prices, as being in OZ it will be absolutely no use to you whatsoever!! 😮

Sorry, I should have said that we already have several HP i/j printers which we do all our exhibition work on, it was pull-ups that made us think as the substrate is quite fussy.
We generally use a film with a non-scratch coat, but of course that adds to the expense.
Thanks for the costing advice – I can go back and sort things out now.

thing is, what about multiples ?
taking a screen printed correx board for example.
is digital print a viable alternative to short run screen print,
for eg 100 boards 3′ x 2′ ?
i’m pretty new to the whole digital print thing you see.
we have avoided it for years for many reasons. -
advanced, we are into screen print boards and have digital. There is advances in board printing with large digital flatbeds but you really have got to have a need to buy one of those expensive printers. However the “apply vinyl to a board” route is cost effective for under say 50 boards. Screen print is still pretty cheap for boards (especially simple prints)

You can’t really compete with screening unless the qtys are huge or the graphic needs to be totally photorealistc.
I WISH I could get 50 quid a sq meter here , best we can do is around 30 -35 , average is around 25-27 quid.
There are ppl here printing at round 16 -20 quid a sq even for small qyt’s , every tom dick and harry has a digital printer and all are scrambling for work. There is chap thats printing billboard and banner for 7 quid a sq , admittedly , thats on big volumes and the print res is lousy.
The first Q I ever get asked when mentioning I do digi printing is “how much per sq meter?” , Kinda like “how much is a sign”
