Small Quantity of 3m IJ180-10

Hi Richard

We had the same problem only last week.

We wrapped a Bently RR in 3m matt black and had to buy 50m @£40+ a metre. Couldn’t find anywhere that would split it.

So if anyone needs any 3m matt black………

Its a killer, if the client decides they do not wish to go ahead I’m stuck with nearly 2ks worth including the lam.

Try talking to William Smith. They stock most of the 3M range, but I doubt they’ll split a roll either. Sounds like you might have to sub out the print on the first one to someone who stocks that vinyl. Unfortunately I can’t help as I only have IJ380. Must be someone on here who keeps the 180 in stock though?

Why was it that much? Should only be circa £16/m

i am guessing this fridge is an usual shape?

if not, why use an expensive vehicle wrapping film like this?
ive wrapped about 60-70 fridges in the past 18months using either Oracal or 3M digital. not a single problem or come-back.

why not use a 3M digital & lam for the sample and see what they think. if they insist on the IJ being used then fine, price accordingly using the vinyl requested from then on. but not on the possibility of some work.

Definitely not from us then Matty as we do sell the 85 matt black part rolls for much much less than £40.

As for the fridge well I agree totally with Rob the ij180 is prob way over spec for it and a polymeric vinyl would be totally fine. If on the other hand its a must to be the ij180 then get in touch as if we have part rolls on the shelf then I can sell them but the reason its not encouraged is that there is always a risk of contamination from hand prints etc. Again "Shy kids get knowt"

Just checked and there are a few part rolls of both the ij180 and the 8580 in the stores.

Thanks for coming back to me. Gill as soon as the first fridge arrives I will be in-touch.

The fridges have a few rounded edges, the reason I want to go for this is that another company used a different material from what they were advised.

I have attached a couple of images of what happened to the fridges on the shop floor of Selfridges. – I’ve never seen a wrap shrink back so far before

The client has been lucky enough to get another shot and I really wouldn’t wish to be the company that puts the nail in the coffin for him.

not being an expert, that looks more like poor fitting looking at the creases, shrink back wouldn’t cause that and possibly the wrong vinyl 🙄

AS Lynn rightly points out, thats just shocking fitting not shrinkage.

It looks like they tried to fit it over the curve without heat, hence the creases.

Have those creases appeared as an after effect of the vinyl shrinking back, surely these would not have been on the job when it was handed over???

I spoke with the client who assures me they were immaculate upon delivery, which is what baffles me the most, if someone on the shop floor had noticed they were peeling back, I can understand them lifting one up, but surely they wouldnt of done it on both?

So after seeing the images, still go for a cheaper film? or just go for it and have piece of mind?

i think that due to the large amount of stretch given to the vinyl at the corner, it failed due to the wrong vinyl. as its not just one corner may rule out cleaning.
what has the original co had to say about it.
personally i would not use any vinyl on that unless it said suitable for extreme contours on the tin(box).

Just out of interest, are the fridges switched on on the shop floor?

I can 100% say that that is not vinyl shrinkage. All the suppliers here will tell you that will not happen over 6 months regardless of material.

If your worried about failure, sure, go for the wrapping vinyl. In my opinion it isn’t necessary and a waste of money, but if it makes you sleep at night, go for it!

Just make sure the cost is past on to the customer!

My fridge freezer, freezer and cooker are all wrapped in avery 900 and no failing yet…4 yrs!!

I will double check with the client, he mentioned last they wasn’t switched on, ill get confirmation from him.

I took delivery of the first fridge yesterday, typically its a double door one to start with 🙄

The guy who delivered the fridge collected the original ones, he also said they looked fine, but the company who did them was asking Smeg if they can remove the panels in future because of difficulties with the corners.

The client has always had dealings with 3m and they are allowed to carry the 3m logo on other projects they do (the fridge is a new idea they are pushing)

I think I’m going to go for the 3m for starters just for piece of mind, I will let you know how I get on.
