SKIP FOR HIRE – HI VIS PAINT, ANY PROBS LIKELY?

Hi Brian, best just make some stencils and let him paint them. I produce magnatic ones for this purpose, I have seen other people try vinyl and they just come off due to the bashing that skips get.

We have used hi-vis paint before, the one we had was produced for marine applications, really expensive about £100 per gallon, only ever painted over this, using one shot.

As Dave says, vinyl may not stand up to the abuse these things get.

hi Dave & Andy ….sorry i never fillied in the blanks ….what i should have said is that this Skip belongs to a scrap matal dealer and its going to be a showpeice at there offices . There going to suspend it on a massive steel rig just as you drive in the gate so it wont get any bashing that the usual skip gets

Can’t see any problems in using vinyl in this case then. But I think I would still use one shot simply because I have used it many times on hi-vis paint and have never had any problems.

All our jobs using this were support ships for the north sea oil rigs, and they do take some hammer, but never had any issues with the paint fading or coming off.

The one we used was a smooth finish, has a soft feel to it though.

Hi-viz paint is normally laquered over, the process is matt white base colour, fluresant colour and then laquer normall vinyl should apply excellent to it. i apply vinyl to working skips from mini to roll on/off bins

It’s flourescent paint

I’ve actually signwritten in this stuff
Great bit letters ‘n’ all

Just as Kev says base coat then the flourescent then the UV protection laquer
Shouldn’t be any different from ordinary paint so vinyl should apply alright
