  • Single colour ‘pixel’ fade

Posted by Kenny Ramsey on 12 November 2009 at 15:27

    Hey everyone.

Really hope I’m describing this correctly (and in the right place).

I’m trying to replicate that fade out effect you see in single colour at times. The best picture I have to describe it is just below the seat of the bike. I’ve tried but I just can’t get it right. The problem is the transition from cut out of the solid to coloured dots.

Hopefully that’ll give an idea of what I’m looking.

Any help greatly appreciated as always

    Thanks 😀

if it’s then needed as a CUT vinyl you can just vectorise it.

You can also create the halftone effect in illustrator if you have it, the plug-in ‘phantasm’ will allow you to create a really good variety of halftone effects directly into vector format from a bitmap.

This means you don’t have to vectorise your halftone pattern after you have created it.

The full version of that plug in is around £89 which is worth it if you use it often.

I only purchased it as i could not get my halftones to vectorise that well, probably my own lack of skill

    🙁

P.s, DAVID, if you read this can you tel me what method you use to vectorise your halftone patterns and what kind of success you get with it. Just because i would be willing to learn new ways. Many thanks.

Signlab has an excellent vectorising feature. Covert it to monochrome (2 colours) – set the Tolerance quite TIGHT and the Corners very ROUND. Works a treat – obviously depends on the resolution of the original as to how perfect the circles will be.
