After a run-of-the-mill week, what could be more refreshing than a normal beer or average wine at the Granville Arms?

The marketeers would have you believe your weekend won’t be complete without seeking out some quaint microbrewery where they serve tankards of a champagne yeast-infused, double hopped ale which has been passionately brewed by traditional craft ale wizards. And even the most standard local boozers profess to sell "quality ales" and "fine wines"… But not the Granville Arms in Rochester, which is taking a remarkably matter of fact approach to marketing.

Instead, above the door of the hostelry in Maidstone Road, it promises only “normal beers” and “average wines”. The man behind this outbreak of drinking honesty is signwriter Mick Pollard, known as Mick the Brush, who is famed for his cheeky sense of humour. As Mick explained: “I needed some more words across the wide fascia and asked the landlord for suggestions. He told me to tell it like it was, so I did!”
