  • Signlab dongle not being recognised at times – help please?

I’m having a problem with my signlab dongle not being detected by signlab sometimes.

    USB dongle
    Signlab 8 (updated from 7)
    Win 8.1 64

It doesn’t seem to matter if it’s plugged into a usb hub or direct to the computer.
if I unplug the dongle the computer makes a sound and then again when I plug it back in so I’m thinking the computer knows it’s there but sometimes when I start signlabs it’ll complain the security device is missing so I’ll unplug the dongle and plug it back in, once is usually enough but not always, and then signlabs will work no problems for the rest of the day.

Does this sound like a software problem or the dongle starting to go faulty?

    Regards
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
Sorry, only just seen this, I think this is probably to do with power loss on the USB bus and the dongle goes to sleep. This is usually caused by having a USB plotter, printer, External HDD, etc also attached, they drain the power from the USB bus and the dongle nods off. If you have a powered USB hub (has it’s own power supply), this will normally solve the issue, if you have the large devices plug these into the hub and the dongle direct into the PC.

    Thanks Ray

    I’ll give that a try.
