That looks cool mate
Just wondering why you didnt do the girl on the right in the same way as the one on the left?….She doesn’t seem to stand out, even in the daytime.
Still, if the customer is happy…..
Cheers

Well done Adrian. Must confess thought the same as Iain.
How tall are they too. and how did you attach them to the wall?
thanks for sharing

Hi guys thans for comments.
We have worked on this project for many months now (most of it in the design stage) originally it was only going to be one lady running the full 17ft drop of the front of the builing. We had much more details on the lady including bikini bottoms and cleavage, however we could not get planning permission. So we reduced the left hand lady to 12 ft and cut off her legs, but that left a degree of emptiness on the fascia so we agreed with the client we would put a shadow effect of what the original lady was going to be and that is the black lady on the right. I might add that these pictures seriously do not do justice to this sign.
Stainless steel lady was routered out of 18mm marine ply and screwed very seriously to thewall, then a cover of butler finish dibond was routerred out and fixed on top with contact adhesive and also screwed where it was going to be covered by the polished stainless steel, then the polished stainless steel was fited over the butler finish using 3M VHB tape.
Letters were a nightmare we fixed to the wall using brass locators but the profile of the was more like the Pentland Hills (Range of hills at the back of Edinburgh) so we had to use spacers to kepp the letters level

…an elegant job in one of my favorite places
(which I even know how to pronounce)
I don’t mind the subliminal-looking lady, but I do feel sorry for the one whose legs you cut off!

very nice work ! i wasnt too clear on what the right hand lady was at first, well… the top part of it at least, the lass on the left tho, is a great use of materials, gives me more ideas for when i finally get into a reasonable size workshop,
bet you’re chuffed when ya drive past and see it up there !

hi adrian class job just the size and planning frighten me
you say it took a while from start to finish hope you charge by the hour
i don’t think photos do it justice we need a digi photo guru to advise or maybe a site trip 😛
once again top marks

very nice mate, like that… even the ghosting image. also like the etched doors.
have you applied the mirror first then etch over it or is it etch on the inside and foil on the outside of glass?not sure of how you fixed the big logo mate. what size was it? i think there must have been an easier way to fix/fabricate that… but hell. easy for me to say once the jobs up i guess. 😕
great stuff adrian. thanks for taking the time to post mate. 😛

The Big black logo was actually put up in about 1 hour. It is about 14 feet long. We cut the shape out of of a 10 by 5 sheet (only cut the top two thirds then lined the rest up by eye)of 5mm foamex. Lined up on fascia secured with two screws, placed big lady inside then screwed straight through put in 50mm rawplugs and and screwed home, when we were finished covered screws with black silicone.
(must mention all the time we were working on this site we had a full blown scaffold covering the whole of the front of the builidng)

just being mosey mate, but would you not find a cherry picker cheaper, safer and fitting faster than a tower?

Sorry Rob, thanks for comments forgot to asnwer your other question.
We use a lot of etch vinyl as we do a lot of hairdressers, quite often find that the etch on its own lacks something so we often infill with chrome.
As a genereal rule we lay etch on first then infillw ith chrome and always on the inside of the window.
Thanks everyone else for their comments

ahh i get you now. its cut out then laid in? we do this sometimes but normally leave a halo of space around a coloured vinyl. like you say to give it something extra. i personaly dont like it as i think etch should be used to imply a bit of class. however i think the chrome works btter than colours. i have never tried the chrome coupled with etch. well done mate. 😉

Looks good Adrian never thought to add crome to etched I like the effect which crome do you use (?)

Hi Rob Re Cherry picker
Lady on the left was seriously heavy, three man job, at her widest she is 8 ft, could have used a scissor lift but not a cherry picker, but main contractor supplied us with the scaffold free( we installed the mercury lights at the top as well).
Hi Lynne
Dont know the manufacturer of the chrome we sue (sounds really daft I know) we used to buy it from spandex for about 6 quid a metere at 610mm but it was crap hard to weed, too thin faded etc, weknow buy from a van trader called Darren McGuire at about £4 a metre at 610 and this stuff is much much better (Im going to get a slagging for this)
