  Sign writer pens final mayoral name at Stafford Civic Centre

  Stafford’s John Martin Godwin has performed an important civic duty every year since 1964. For each year John, 81, writes the name of every Mayor of Stafford Borough on the wooden board in the Civic Centre.
  He started one board in 1964, with the first entry being Iris Moseley, and has now penned his final one – current mayor Peter Jones – which is also the last available entry on the board. Next year the council will have to start a new board – and find a new sign writer as John is planning to retire from the annual duty.
