(Sign)wizard and being called Oz… is that a connection to a film I have seen?
Honestly, I have not heard of anyone else using it…
which cutter is it driving? And can you get creative in the software?
-
I think it’s one of the older software packages available. Shane (the mad Aussie) uses it as far as I know.
Also Vale Graphics

Hi Dave, had not noticed the wizard/Oz connection until now that you have mentioned it. 😀 But the software seems to be popular in USA. It has all the main plotter drivers installed, I use a Roland plotter with it. I’ve been using the software for 13 years now – obviously upgrades each time they bring out an "improved" version, but it just seems a lot easier than the popular Signlab and has all the features required for sign making & design. I just wanted know if it is just me who uses it in this country in which case the company should perhaps honour me in some way. Maybe Signwizard of Oz Uk
-
I remember that software. I’m sure I tryed to get a demo once but couldn’t get through to them on the phone 😕
I remember their adverts in the old sign mags probably around 1994 time
which is around when you got yours.Must be a lot more users (?) (?) (?)
No doubt Shane will fill us in when he comes on line.
I’m sure we could knock you up a little certificate if you are the only user OZ.

Me me me me me…………….. i’m the only person in the uk to admit to having signwizard 4.1. Feels like a session at AA. Okay maybe not. But it feels like it. The software i mean!!
Oz what version you got? I’m not really using it much at the mo as i’m trying to get used to flexi these days mainly due to the tools and the file transfers. But s/w for user friendliness. Top marks. 😛
I’ll shut up now. 😕
Hey shane any info on the latest version for me? 😉

Mad aussie here :lol1: :lol1:
Yeah Oz been using SW for years. It is pretty popular here too. I had a multiuser version when I had my big sign shop (3 computer/design/cutting computers) but now I am running only the one unit now that I have downsized. Upgraded to 5.1 which is a better version than 4.1
Have not seen anything equal to it as far as user friendlyness goes. Does everything I need, althought I use corel 12 for some design work that will be printed.
Biggest problem with the sign wizard people is they got caught on the back foot with the sudden rise in popularity of wide format printers (wfp). Plus their upgrade path is way too expensive for the likes of us aussies whose dollar is equivilent to the american 65cent 🙄
The latest version is not worth the upgrade at all in my opinion. If you were thinking of going into wfp then an upgrade to v6 may pay because you get some pretty high powered rips as an add on, (they have partnered with Onyx) but if you already have a rip, then the new version is essentially the same as running sw5.1 and Corel v12 in tandem. The comparison is here http://www.aries-graphics.com/products/ … s6n=1&sw=1
The other thing is that SW6 has been so long coming, about 4 years, all the dedicated users like myself have probably gone over to other software (signlab/flexi) if they feel that the software is being left behind. Aries Graphics have been totally caught up in the 3M philosophy – that is: We are the best so we don’t need to improve until we decide the market requires it. They refuse to accept that our industry is driven by what the market likes and dislikes.
As a result, 3M are so blatantly ignorant of other products – some much better then the 3M brand – that they are being left behind. Aries have suffered, and are still suffering, from the same ‘head in the sand’ attitude.
Personally, I think some of the ‘new features’ in SW6 should have been upgrades in 5.1, but as is typical of companies that lose touch with their support base, they think that people will be happy to pay for something because it is an Aries initiative.
They are wrong.
That said, I love my sw5.1 and see no reason to upgrade or change to another program.
sorry to babble 😳 .

Good to see I’m not the only user of Sign wizard. I am running 5.1 at the moment DOES EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN! (bet people from out of the UK haven’t heard that saying before). As for digital printing – I sub it all out, so never needed Sign wizard for that.

Shane and oz. What has 5.1 got that 4.1 has’nt ? Is it worth upgrading or not ?
Cheers guys

I’m a sign wizard 5.1 too!
Been using it for 4 years! Kicks signlab into touch with regard to node editing. Can’t get on with SignLab’s the circle/triangle type points & that big chunky pen cursor.
Having said that I use SignLab,CorelDraw x3, AI CS2 + Photoshop. I think that covers all the bases.
By the way Sign Wizard 6 still can’t import Illustrator files newer than version 8! -

Matt, still can’t find my old 4.1 to compare, but I think it is worth upgrading.
Got better shadow options and the conform cut cuts thru all layers at the click of the button instead of having to do each layer.
It also runs faster and smoother
Welcome Darron

Cheers shane. Any idea on price over there? Have’nt checked the site yet. Can you upgrade to just 5.1 ?

welcome to the boards.
I cant comment on sw but I think Signlabs node editing is very good, I suppose its what you get used to.
You must have quite a large set up to use all those premium programmes.
Look forward to your input on the boards.Peter

Matt
You should pickup a cheap version of 5.1 now given that it has been superceded.
No idea what a 5.1 version is here, I paid $1000 for my upgrade 5 or 6 years ago.
I think signwarehouse.com.au is the agent here now, with the pound so much stronger than the $au you’d probably get a very affordable copy.
Worth an email. Couldn’t hurt. I am happy to contact them on your behalf if you wish. I know the owner reasonably well.

Hi/ I use signblazer and I find it very good and a fraction of the price of the others in the same category. Very user friendly overall. Only problem I have/had was the importing of files. Through the help of this site and its members, I think I’m fixed again! Cheers guys!!
