Sign System – info needed!
Posted by Marcella Ross on 18 August 2005 at 14:36I’ve been asked to quote for a job where the specified sign system is called Modulex Pacific Interior Range. Has anyone heard of this or who would supply it?
Help appreciated!

Modulex is very difficult to acquire as they also service the end user. You could try System 4 which is a very good alternative to the Pacific sign

i do wonder sometimes when a customer tells you the type of sign that they have a quote from elsewhere.
-
Quite often if a particular sign system is specified then the instruction comes from a designer, specifier or architect. This is down to the system manufacturer sending reps to these people. The customer is then often duty bound to go to several sign companies for prices. It is usually never set in stone that the specified system has to be used.
-
Absolutely, so if you can offer them something more appealing that is either cheaper or around the same price as the specified system they may well go with your suggestion. In my experience it is not always going to come down to price either. Many customers will be quite happy to pay a bit more for a more suitable system.

Are suppliers allowed to plug their own products on the boards???

I apologise if that is the way it seems and I can see how it may appear but it was completely unintentional.

my brother is an architechts assistant, or something to that effect, when i asked him to describehis job, he said “the architect does a fancy drawing, and says what he’d like it built from, then i tell him what it ca be made from and have to make it work”. i’ve never looked at architects the same !
before that years ago i was a yard manager for a heavyside builders merchant, the things people used to ask for because an architect had spcified it, i used to read 99% of the literature on new materials etc, but most of the stuff i’d never heard of, i reckon they used to make it up !

Ah, this takes me back. I used to work for a company who supplied a modular slat-type product. It was the Holy Grail to get an architect to fall in love with your product. Whoever got the job to supply the stuff, they had to buy it from us. In my experience, once a product was specified by the architect, that was that. Brilliant. Coincidently, the boss was a former Modulex rep; that bloke really knew how to get a product on a specifier’s list.
Anyway, babbling…been down the snooker club….beer…..you know.

I miss out on dealing with architects and specifiers. I guess that Spandex must have been the masters of having products specified, when I think of the amount of Slatz and Infopanel that goes into schools.hospitals and government establishments.

Probably because it’s a very good product. I find the Spandex range of hardware really easy to work with.

Very good indeed and has stood the test of time, Slatz and Infopanel have been around forever and is still purchased in large quantities. Their newer products like Monoform and Insertz are also exceptional in look and ease of use. I would also say though that there are now more and more sign systems coming onto the market from all over Europe and beyond which is good news for the sign maker. They are mostly a version of what has been before but then there is only so much you can do with an extrusion.

Slatz is the only system I’ve used before, easy to work with and looks not bad either.
Andy – hope you won your game of snooker! 😀

I have always been a big fan of Slatz, not quite so keen on Slimslatz but it does have its uses and when made properly it can look very nice.
