  • Sign Spinners / Dancers, What do you think?

I came across a new story on CBS about Sign Spinners so decided to do a bit of googling and found these on youtube.

It obviously works and paying £10 an hour to do this, the money isn’t bad either. however, i personally think the legibility of these ads are very limited due to them being spun and danced around… but what do i know?
its been in existence in LA for about 5 years so indicates its not just a passing fad and is growing and growing…

just wondering your views on this and do you think we will see this on our street corners around the UK any time soon?

    Only in America!

Anyway, I’ve been doing that for years. That’s how I get signs out the back of the van, especially in the wind we’ve been having lately.

Wont last long……………First pedestrian gets whacked………………… :lol1: :lol1: ………….Claims Direct, and who cops it, the guy with the sign or the person who hired him 😕

I’m sure there will be something of a disclaimer in it for the one doing the hiring. all the claims direct type stuff came from the states originally anyway.
so ide expect it wouldn’t have lasted 5 years if that was the case, but i do agree with you on that it could be deemed dangerous etc over here.
i think its a bit like a franchise though is it not, every man to himself and paid based on what they can do etc?

It sure did, they are responsible for all this trip and claim a fortune culture.

Amazing footage though, never seen anything like that before. As to it catching on over here, hmm not sure. I think Andy is right..Only in America.
Just can’t imagine doing that for 8 hours a day 😕

As i said though, i see the idea of the guy doing all the trick work attracting the eye, but they only work to an extent because its the advert itself doing all the spinning so you don’t get to read it unless you catch them when they take a pause. 😕 fair enough if the had the same sign sitting at their feet like a type of lightweight a-board and they done all this behind it with the arrow sign. but using the sign… well.. as i said, limited to moving traffic / pedestrians.

Only in America indeed, and please help yourself to all of it as far as I’m concerned. These guys are all over the place in Southern California – for many of them its evolved into some form of break dancing. I find it annoying, but not nearly as annoying as those nylon wind-sock things with a motor under them that makes them dance around. See why I insist on being a traditional sign painter? I’m countering alot of cr*p. That’s why there’s really still such a high demand for traditional signage in America, I even got a call for some gilding today – many people here are adamant about having something that counters all of that. It’s a point of pride with them and they’re willing to pay for it. They want to stand apart from the people who hire these guys and put the wind-sock dancers in front of their businesses.

well i can see it being a distraction while driving… although I could see this happening on our beaches like newquay etc.

So if a person cant put a pavement sign out, you could employ someone with a advert strapped to their body or a spinning sign. hmm
