I want to start a printing business with my father in law. He currently owns a shop that doesn’t do too well so we are going into business together to turn it around.
I have capital for equipment but I want to do his right.
So, what do I want from you guys?
Some of you may already be running a similar business already, I need to pick your brains.

    The Question:
If you were setting up a business to do the following
    Canvas Printing
    Sign Boards
    Vehicle graphics
    Shop-fronts
    Safety Signs
    Banners
    Pavement Signs
    Window Lettering
    Stickers & Labels
    Business Cards
    Leaflets
…. and pretty much anything else that a customer could ask for.
    What equipment would YOU recommend?

I know I am asking for a lot here (the whole setup really), but if you have five minutes to share your knowledge I would be really grateful.
    Thanks,
    Dan

PS. Dont be afraid to "dumb it down" either, I am starting from scratch here, with zero experience but the will to learn and make this business work.

    Danny
How much capital are you prepared to invest?

you will need a few bob to do all you ask, and if you have done any research at all, will have an idea of the equipment costs, if not I suggest you read up first and ask more specific questions, you are asking for a complete DIY manual of signmaking,

it would take a month to reply to your questions…not 5 minutes

    got to agree with peter…

i know we all have to start somewhere but its a brave step to take going into a business you know so little about..

try get some experience in the industry before you sink your money in to the wrong machinery etc..

you may well find its not what you want to do…

if you decide to go ahead then i wish you good luck
at least here on UKSB you will get good sound advice frompeople who have been there and done it…

Have to agree with Peter as usual, from your post you are actually looking to start in two different industries, Printing and Signmaking. Although there are obviously a lot of areas where the two cross over to actually start out with no experience in either would probably be a bit to much for anyone. I would do a bit more research, decide which of the two most appeals to you and then maybe start out with that. You can always add to the business in the future once you have one business running successfully.

If it’s signs you want to do more than printing, get yourself a digi wide format printer that is print & cut. Probably a versacamm or a cadet to start with, this will actas a printer and vinyl cuter for you.
you can still do business cards and printing stuff, just get them from trade suppliers on the net.
