    Hello,

Are there any formulas or guidelines for working out the depth needed for the foundation of post mounted signs when the height and width of the sign is known?

    Thanks for your advice

Neil, always try and get a third of the total post length underground. A good rule of thumb to go by… Martin

    Hi Neil

the ashby guide is good but remember to take into account ground conditions
if planting a sign into loose soil you will need more depth than if you were planting in say concrete /hardcore ground.

Me too, although 25% would be a minimum in hard soil and concrete
