  • Short term Laminate

    Hi Guys,

The company I work for does outdoor mobile advertising, including 6 sheet bikes and segways with shield.

These often get flung into vans and transported around the country and unfortunately the prints get damaged sometimes, however it is not worth having them properly laminated as they are only out for a few days at a time.

So basically I am looking for a low cost laminate or clear vinyl for this purpose, we tried Grafityp’s removable clear vinyl but the water based adhesive reacted with the water under wet application and went cloudy, It should be noted I would be laminating these by hand.

I have thought about Orajet 3162 clear as we print on 3162 white gloss, does anybody know if the adhesive is suitable for wet application?

Or what else do you guys recommend?

    Thanks in advance
    Graham

Get them printed on PVC with solvent ink far more durable.

Not really an option I’m afraid as we print in house and use eco-solvent inks.

I asked a rep this once and he suggested a cheap frost.
He was a Metamark rep so suggested their frost. Graphics do show up clearly through the frost with a matt appearance.
Not sure how much protection it would offer.

    just got to ask.

what is a 6 sheet bike.

    just a few ideas.

charge the fitters for the reprints.
send the prints out in a good box to protect them.
lamination wet is not the best way to do it. the backing paper is likely to de-laminate as the fitters are fitting.
a 1360 wide x 2000 print can be laminated by hand dry.
why can’t you print to banner material.

just my view trying to be helpful,

    chris

Eco solvent on banner PVC would be fine, I supply this sort of thing to alot of my clients we use an ultra smooth scrimless banner.

    Sorry for the late reply

Its a trike with a 6 sheet display area on the back of it.

I print and fit them, they then get put into a van and transported where necessary, this is where they tend to get damaged.

I don’t have much choice but to laminate wet, we do not have a laminator and I am on my own. I simply do not have the skill (or work area) to do something of that size, dry and on my own.

Banner material is not suitable for the type of application, it must be self-adhesive.

Question is now moot anyway as having found a suitable vinyl the cost is too great but thanks for the replies!
