Its s’posed to be a member too drunk to stand, crawling towards the bar asking for a refill, but I can see what you mean Nik 😉 Had one of those not so good days today fitting a sign that just wouldn’t fit, so I’m forgoing the beer and heading straight to bed 🙁 Anyone who ever said be a signmaker was easy should’ve had my day! 😕 😮

Chin up mate,
Remember that you’re a beginner ( Like me) and you need to pay to learn. Sometimes that includes having to redo a job to get it right. You don’t make any money on that one but you learn and make it up next time. That’s how we all get experience. Hopefully we learn from it and don’t make the same mistakes again. easily said huh?
Here’s one for you I did last week.
I’ve been window tinting for about twenty years. I’m really good at it. I was working on a new land cruiser while talking on the phone to Jenny. I was just saying what a good job I was doing on this car when my knife slipped and I cut the paint. Yes I cut the frigging paint. I’ve not done that for donkeys but I tempted the Gods of work and told her how bleeding good I was.
I had nowhere to go. I went straight to the customer and told him about it and said I’d fix it. Man I had a lump in my guts when I did this.
Bear in mind, this is a brand new top of the line car. The customer said fine fix it.
Anyway I phoned another customer who has a panel shop and asked him about it. I took it in the next day, got it fixed, took the car back to the customer.
Customer was a happy chap – good repair. He then said ( this is my point) “I’ve been looking at your business card. You do design, printing and signs don’t you?”. “Can you do me a logo design for my freight business and have a look at re signing my five trucks”.
It might look really black right now, but if you do the right thing by your customer mate…It’ll work out in the end. Go have a tequila.

I have had terrible problems with this sign Lee, made some pretty big boo boos, but luckily I have a very understanding customer atm. The problems stem from a mixture of the weather, and the general removal/fitting conditions for the existing sign. Sunday was just one long nightmare, but with fresh eyes, I’m now sub-contracting the fitting (as soon as I find someone). The biggest problem is that the sign has to come down in the morning and be returned to site by 5pm (their opening time) 🙁 As you say though, I’m a beginner and this is all one massive learning curve. Fitting signs onsite is a whole other ball game, and the commitment to shop opening hours is making it more than a little taxing to organise, but I’ll manage it I’m sure. I have some relatively minor physical injuries from Sunday, but my ego has taken the biggest dent. 😳
Anyway, I’m back to my former silly self, complete with a new UKSB-SignUK logo 😉 😉 😉
Cheers, Dewi
