    Hi everyone – newbie here!

I’ve been doing bits and pieces of vinyl cutting for a while & recently decided to try do it a little more seriously. My old cutter didn’t like running from a USB port & my version of Corel wouldn’t work under Vista so…

I’ve bought a Secabo C60 III and I’m cutting with the supplied software which is Flexi Starter 8.5v1. The problem I’m having is the cut not meeting properly – ie on some circles it will ‘lead in’ a little from the outside, (or sometimes the inside) putting a small nick in the surrounding vinyl. I’ve changed the overcut figure and it still does it – is there anywhere in this software I can change what it’s doing or is it something cutter based? It does it on other shapes as well, not just the circles. Is there anywhere I can define the stop and start point – maybe put a lead in on the scrap piece of the vinyl to ensure I get a good cut for the piece I want?

Thanks for your help in advance!

    Cheers,
    lee

I would speak to the supplier of your machine first, they will know not only the plotter but the software they supplied as well and have probably come across this problem before.

I’ll have to give them a try – I was sort of hoping it’d be something simple that someone on here might know about but I guess the supplier is my best first port of call.

    Thanks for the reply,

I had the same problem. The machine is in fact good. the software isnt really compatible get easysign the drivers are on that. with the combination it works spot on.

This is a blade offset or overcut problem…..some plotters allow it to be set in the plotter…cheaper plotters require it to be set in the cuttting software.

Yes that is a problem too, but Ive found that the machine and software just doesn’t work together.

Thanks for the replies guys. Could you point me in the direction of the software you mentioned?

I’m sure it’s not an offset or overcut problem but if I could get it sorted without spending too much I’d be well chuffed 😎

I don’t think it’s an offset problem (could always be proved wrong though).

My reasoning… plotters cut vector information, vector information comprises of co-ordinates, start and finish co-ordinates of a circle should be same e.g. (0:0) irrespective of offset, they may finish up short or long in a horizontal or vertical position due to the offset but you say they are spiraling in or out, i.e. losing accuracy.
Have you checked basic things like pinch rollers or not allowing the machine to pull vinyl off the roll, pull some off to leave it loose if it has a roll feed, it might be slipping at it takes up.

I always let some vinyl hang loose so it’s not a problem with that & from what I can see the rollers aren’t adjustable on my machine.

If I was to cut a circle you’d probably be able to see a small cut where it had started cutting before moving out to the profile, although it does tend to close the circle. I’ve tried a different angle blade but it didn’t make any difference. It’s been suggested the software is the issue – I use Corel X4 for drawing and then export to the FlexiStarter which probably could be better!

    Thanks for your help,

Sorry Lee, I mistunderstood when you said your version of corel didn’t work in Vista, if you have x4 then it surely will (or do you mean ancient corel version 4)?

X4 will operate your plotter in a fashion at least and probably perfectly good, try cutting a circle from there …. from memory if it hasn’t changed, set up your plotter as a printer then print in hpgl to it, should do a circle to test it even if it pisses around doing other strange things.

    Hi Ian,

I might have confused things a little – I used to have CorelDraw 8 from many moons ago that I couldn’t get to work under Vista. I now use x4 which I really like. I’m not sure about how to print to my cutter though. It uses a usb connection but I think it is some kind of virtual port so I’m not sure how to set it up as a printer, especially driver wise!

If anyone knows how to do it I’m all ears!!

    Thanks,
    lee
