Sealing edges of laminated workPosted by Cheryl Tissington on 23 April 2007 at 13:00Hi there,
can anyone tell me if there’s a product that will seal the edges of laminated work please.I just wondered if there’s anything that you can run along the edges to make the seal and little more watertight. Many thanks,
 Cheryl 🙂Cheryl Tissington replied 18 years, 6 months ago 10 Members · 15 Replies

 Cheryl. 😀

the seal-it pens are rubbish in my opinion there was a tip on the boards which i tried with some success which was to use clear nail varnish 😉 …….not my own i hasten to add :lol1:

As far as I know, Seal-It pens are merely markers filled with Frog Juice.
I think I would get a very fine brush and some 1-Shot UV clear and paint the edges that way.

3M do a edge sealer in a tin, you can get it from spandex Nick.

cheryl, are you laminating paper/card/vinyl etc?
what are you laminating with, clear vinyl or adhesive back laminating film?

Hi Rob,
I’m printing onto white vinyl and laminating with a matching clear laminating vinyl.I’m experimenting with my Marine Stuff !!! Just trying to seal the edges for a longer life. Cheryl 😀

Doro tape do a pen which I have had good luck with Peter

Cheryl, if you need to seal the edges, it should be done on application, as the edge between the vinyl and substrata will be just as vulnerable as the vinyl to laminate edge. I cant really see why you need to seal the edge, but if you must,
for marine work, applied to glass fibre boats I would seek advice from someone like sunseeker, they would probably be able to supply clear gel coat which would be ideal. Otherwise a clear polyurethane varnish, (NOT NAIL varnish, it will not last, its not designed to! I’m sure all the sign chicks will agree, how long does it stay on your nails?)will do what you want.Peter

in that case i wouldnt bother cheryl, i recon the life will be fine…
if you are worried and are actually applying the graphics, fit the first layer as normal, then contour cut the clear but with an outline of about 3-5mm then apply the clear over the top. the overlap will seal the edge of the print.personaly, i wouldnt bother.
