  • Sealing edge of laminated prints mounted on composite

We’ve been asked to produce some exterior photo art, that will be mounted on composite (3mm DiBond) with a graffiti resistant laminate, and held in place with an exterior, lockable frame. On small pieces, we have wrapped the laminate around the edge of the prints, but for this job, I’m thinking about some edging tape (and here is where I start to run out of knowledge…).

The frame will cover about 10mm of the image, so there is room for some type of weather proof seal. Each piece is 1000x1500mm.

The images will be about 8′ above the ground, on some side streets around Brixton Market, and up for a maximum of six months. I’m not too concerned about vandalism (Brixton is actually quite a nice place), but would like to weather proof the images. None of the sites get direct sunshine.

    Thanks in advance,
    Richard

if you use a solvent printer this is not necessary, but if using the epson then i would seal the edge with a strip of laminate wraped round to the back. and hope its not ripped when inserted in the frame.

epsons are fantastic printers and ink but outdoor stuff needs careful application. then can last quite a while.

We are using a 9800 from Epson.
For some reason, I had in my mind, the need for some exotic signmaking tape. but, thinking about it, the use of the laminate added after the event would work, flattened down by a final trip through the laminator.

    Thankyou. Have I missed anything?
