  • Saving, sending large files from Corel 12

I often receive high quality photos from clients have to incorporate these as part my own design for roll-ups etc. and banners etc.
I then need to send these (1) to the client for approval, and (2) to the company which I use for printing.

Obviously the ones for the printer have to be to the exact dimensions and of high quality. I end up with an enormous file size which takes ages to send by e-mail. Sometimes I´ve managed to reduce the file size while still maintaining the quality. But this has been by trial and error.
I´d be most grateful if someone could give me step-by-step instructions as to best way to achieve a small file, but with a minimum of 300 DPI.

I compose layouts exclusively in Corel 12 as this is the programme I know best. I also have ILLUSTRATOR and PHOTOSHOP.

    Thanks in advance. Chris

I find that scaling your image down to round about 300mm x ??? mm….make your page size slightly bigger & centre the image to it……. select "publish to PDF" in "File" drop down menu…….. then in the "PDF Style box", select PDF for document distribution

this gives a pin sharp attachment at a managable file size

    I’ve just re read your post & I think I’ve jumped in a bit…..

That is how we send a quality email but it obviously wouldn’t do for sending to your printers….sorry

This might be up your alley. Another member linked to this site (thanks Aaron Powell!) just a few days ago. It’s free and you can send up to 100mb files apiece. Might help. http://www.mediafire.com/ I’ve sent it to all my graphic design buddies. You could also try setting up your own ftp server. There are some free and some affordable programs on the desktop side.

Sending large format image files to your outsource printer is probably best done by burning them to a 20 cents (or pence) CD and sending by courier. Email attachments larger than 5Mb are pretty unfriendly.
