    Good morning all,

This post is about reducing the size of unnecessary big files before you waste and lot of computer time and rip time.

Please look at the attached photo. (VERY big wall wrap with photo around 400 MB)

Sometimes I need only 1 part of the print to be saved inside the PDF. This is done easy, I’m getting 1 selected artboard into the PDF – BUT the size of the file is the same, because the PDF caries the weight on the remaining 3 parts of the image.

Back in the old days, the setting on CorelDraw and Illustrator where like this – it only saved the artboard part of the image into the PDF. When you then drag the new saved file into CorelDraw or AI again, only the required part of the image was opening.

Is there any way that I only save the data on the selected artboard only?

I want to get smaller file, easy handling, shorter RIP time

If this PDF is made up from 4 artboards/pages.

You could SPLIT the file in Acrobat. I think the option is under ORGANISE PAGES. In this instance, it would create a single file for each artboard/page whilst leaving the original unchanged.

I use this feature fairly regularly.

    Hope this helps.

Hi David. Will the split file weight 75% times less?

I have no problem saving to 1 page PDF – but the weight of the file is still the same as it contains all other parts of the big image, i.e. is not trimming the image when saving.

Off the top of my head I don’t thinks it’s 75% smaller however it does reduce the file size.

If still not small enough, you could open the split files in Photoshop as Jamie suggests.

I’d crop it into 4 separate files in Photoshop. Then set the size and resolution, depending on final use, ie 150 dpi at full size, 300 dpi at half size etc.

Have you tried saving as PDF-X, in this format the outside areas of a pdf page are deleted
