A Burton signage firm has lifted the lid on its long-standing relationship with another historic town firm. Hardy Signs, based in Wetmore Road, has been supplying Rumenco, based in Derby Road, for several years with different multi-format graphics for the firm’s events and exhibition displays. Rumenco is an independent company with a track record of more than 50 years of assisting livestock farmers to maximise animal performance from home grown feeds.

The firm’s name and reputation for quality nutritional products is well known throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland and international farming industries. Rumenco has a very busy events calendar and, with the use of pop-up displays and other banners, the company consistently promotes its range of products at various agricultural events and shows throughout the country. A spokesman for Hardy Signs said: "The firm has an extensive range of display items such as roller banners and pop-up display kits."

"We also manufacture bespoke exhibition signage in a wide range of materials to suit our customers." "Additionally, we have a range of dynamic digital displays to make exhibition stands more interactive." Jo Calcott, commercial co-ordinator of Rumenco, said: "We participate in a lot of events throughout the year therefore the ability to get our show graphics printed to a professional quality and sourced locally here in Burton is very useful."

Hardy Signs has recently invested in a new latex printer. In addition to using non-toxic and odourless inks, the latex printer can print on a wide variety of materials, which are ideal for printing event graphics. Nik Hardy, managing director of Hardy Signs, said: "I constantly get feedback from our customers to have a greener print output, and with our latex printer we support the green commitments of our customers, especially the corporate customers." The new printer will print on a vast array of materials much faster and with quicker drying times.

These quick drying times will allow the firm to have very efficient lead times, saving time and money for its customers. Tom Hardy, Hardy Signs general manager, spoke to The Week in Business: "I am really pleased with the latex printer’s speed and quality. "With odourless inks, no extra ventilation is required in the workshop." "It complements the UV flatbed (Arizona) printer, leaving the Arizona to do what it does best, which is printing direct to substrate."

The new printer was sold and installed by Woking-based Repropoint, along with providing on-site training. The installation was quick and the printer started printing pretty much straight away after it was plugged in. One of the biggest advantages of the latex printer is that it uses non-toxic inks, giving a truly green printing output. With the non-toxic or non-solvent inks, printing on this printer supports the firm’s customers to strengthen their sustainability commitment for the future. In addition, with a bulk ink system, the firm recycles ink cartridges, cutting down on ink wastage and making it a very green process.
