    Hi Guys,

Well I thought it was time i posted my first post of the Year 2010 and I wanted to share something with you guys which has been a major problem for us but turned out to be a simple fix in the end……

Firstly how many people on the forums can honestly say that they have read there printers manuals from front to back…??? How many actually only read it when thing go wrong???

Any way down to the discussions….

Recently we started experiencing problems with our machine losing connection to Versaworks and stopping half way through prints….As you can imagine this started to get costly and exremely expensive as we were wasting media and shed loads of ink…..Anyway we tried just about everything….2 new computer, a new laptop..We still had the same error it would randomly just drop out and lose it connection…..

I have read somewhere on this forum that someone had a similar issue….

Any way after trying new computers, new leads and even almost ordering a new network board for the machine we decided to refer to the manual to see if we could see anything we missed……

Baring in mind its in the middle of December and its freezing cold in our workshop even though we have heating……

Anyway to cut a long story short it turns out that our problem is down to temperatue and this is the thing causing our connection to drop out….Its so strange if the machine network area of the machine is not up to a good temperature the machine loses connection. We have now placed an electric heater just below the control panel of the machine and have it on a timer to pop on 2 hours before we get to work…..This warms the machine up nicely for us when we get in…..

Since we’ve been doing this we have not lost a connection….and printing is back to normal….

Moral of the story make sure you read you manual and make sure your machine is used in the right temperatures.

    Many Thanks

    interesting stuff.

I have a similar problem with my 540ex, in that it has a network error intermittently, usually at the start of a job, at any time of the day. I could have printed something already, and when I start the next print, it fails. Nothing works but to turn the power off, and restart everything.

Thing is, my second 540ex is on the same network, sharing the same hub, running the same computer and it never fails.

I’ve suggested to the techs that it may be the network card in the printer, but they tell me it either works or it doesn’t, so the intermittent error can’t be the card.

I’ve changed all the cables, to no avail, so now I just put up with it. Only happens once or twice a day, and it has only once failed during a big print.

Thanks for the post though. It may help others.
