hi all after a few days and many prints on lots of media I have a question for all the versa works users out there, only one question i hear you ask !!

OK when at Roland for the demo I was told the best setting in the rip under colour management was sign & display, however when I had the install I was told use the max density U.S setting now I have printed many meters and found little difference could any one explain the difference please

    thanks rich

Well I was told to use sign and display also so I just use that, I think its what is set up when the print mode is made? (probably wrong)

Just found this on a Roland site

"VersaWorks includes five preset color matching settings such as US Prepress, Euro Prepress, Sign & Display, etc., allowing quick selection of the settings that best suit your application. Other advanced features make VersaWorks™ one of the most convenient and comprehensive RIPs available. These include the ability to preserve the purity of primary colors, to adjust calibration curves, to independently render intents for raster and vector objects, and to simulate output color on screen before printing."

    If that helps 😕

well I was a lucky boy and I have vinyl from all directions
Allprint, Hexis , md5, LG , and more in banner 3-5 year and 5-7 year and well just toooo many rolls to move

I like the LG for cheap and prints well but have used a lot of MD5 and MD7
I also like the hexis I cant really see a lot of difference although I have seen a few different colours come out using different media
what do you print to mate

I use the 4year Europoint for run of the mill stuff and have just tried MD5/7 and that is very good with the profiles from Metamark, got a very competitive price from them as well 😀

    Back to the original question….

The Colour Management settings are for how you want the RIP to ‘render’ the colours.

‘Sign & Display’ boosts the vibrancy of the print so colours are bright and vivid but it does this at the expense of accuracy. Installers often encourage you to set this as even mediocre quality images look ‘lush’ and ‘rich’ and it is often appropriate for Sign work – hence the name.

However, if you are looking to get accurate colours – for example good pantone matches – a setting of ‘Pre-Press Europe’ is a much better choice. Try setting this and picking a few pantone spots in Corel & Illustrator – you will get much better results when you compare them to a pantone swatch.

    Regards,

    Mike

And many thanks from me. I did try a few settings today and found a few things out, so to round up if its my design and my customer has not seen printed design then use sign and display or if i get sent a file with known pantones use Pre-Press Europe

I have found using the Roland colour swatch very help full so if I were to use this in the above settings would I still get different results
    thanks rich

Rich, did you know you can buy a Roland coulor swatch ready printed from Metalmark, I have not got one yet, printed out my own on to the Europoint vinyl, find it very useful too.

its handy but unless the you print on exactly the same setting and media as metamark, its not realy any use, print them on the vinyl you are going to print on then cut it up, lot more acurate
