    Hi,

I have spent much time trying to correct cutting problems I am having with a Roland SP-540V printer/cutter.

The machine prints fantastically but as soon as it comes time to cut something it fails miserably.

When trying to cut a straight line it drifts approx. 1/2" over 48". I have tried doing a cut alignment but no improvement was seen.

I’ve cleaned the grit rollers, checked the machine for level, and lowered the up and cut speed but have found no improvement.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

It could just be dust affecting the encoder strip. Over time small fragments of dried ink can build up like soot. Cleaning the encoder strip may solve your problem

Yep deffo the encoder strip or mybe the encoder board, Try running a swab of soapy water across the strip and dry with a new swab. If no joy may need a new strip. 90% the encoder strip is dirty of over spray build up over time.

The cutting function doesn’t use the encoder strip, it uses only the disk encoder on the bottom of the scan motor. The encoder strip is used only when printing. I would replace the pinch rollers first as they are a consumable item and are fairly cheap (remember the outer rollers are different to the inner ones as they’re conical and need to be installed the correct way round). Then try the pinch roller assy which is a pig to replace the first couple of times. If not, maybe the cut cable?
