  • ROLAND SERVICE CALL 0103

Posted by JUMA A. MDOE on 9 November 2010 at 14:25

    Hello everybody!
Iam new here and from the third world so please treat me kindly.
I bought a Roland VP540i about half a year ago. I decided to use third party ink believing that even if some parts will wear out faster it will be worth the risk.
It is now a month and a half since it displayed service call 0103. The Roland dealer here tried to fix it but he couldn’t. I decided to call Roland South Africa ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT they don’t deal with anybody who is using third party ink.
This is how the machine behaves..
When you switch the main power the machine restarts itself without switching on the sub power and goes straight to cleaning function and then displays the service call 0103, meaning that it is almost impossible to enter service mode in the normal way.
This s my problem I really need help from you guys.
Iam even ready to pay for around trip for someone who can help me.
    Thank you,
    Juma- Dar es salaam,Tanzania.

    Hello Kev,
    Thanks a lot.
Do you happen to know how to change the sensors and the best place to purchase them?
Is it possible to get a service manual?

    Thank you Steve.
Where is the best place to buy the sensors and other consumables like maintenance kit?
Why is the machine restarting itself after switching on the main power without switching on the sub power? Is it because of the error or is it another problem?
Is it possible to get the service manual?
    Juma.

    Hi Juma

Before you go buying parts – often this error is fixed by resetting the tool carriage (a head strike of similar can throw the alignment out very easily)

    Turn off machine

Hold down Left, Up and Right arrows while restarting, press enter…

this should disconnect the tool carriage from the print head and it will ask ‘align head’ (can’t remember if you press enter again now or after the next step…but you will figure it when you do it)

then slowly push the tool carriage all the way to the left – until the knife is activated

the press enter and the carriage will come back to the print head and reset the whole unit and turn off

Turn machine back on and should be all good to go
    🙂 🙂

    Hello Mark,
    Thanks,
I tried but but the machine is still behaving the same.
Is this the way the front switch on button on the panel supposed to behave when you have this type of error? When you press it down to switch it off It does not stay off, It goes off for a second and restarts itself immediately.
Because whatever I do it restarts itself and display the service call 0103.
    Juma.

    Hi Juma

You are using 3rd party inks? Have the cartridges got roland cartridge chips in them?

Have you turned the machine off at the wall and pulled the plug (there is a trickle charge in all power supplies and to clear some electronic issues, like USB ports not working etc., you must kill the power completely before doing restarts…not just powering down the machine.

If that doesnt work, then hold the keys down when you turn the machine off so that even if it restarts by itself they are held down for the restart

    Do you have SKYPE

    (?) (?) 🙂

    Hello Mark,
Yes Iam using third party inks and they have Roland chips because I have bee using them for the last four months.
I tried what you told me without any luck.
I also tried to press down, right, left and up and then I pressed and hold right, down and left and it displays service call- cut limit sensor.
Yes Iam subscribed to free skype, as screenmasterstz.
You can also email me direct, jumaaa@screenmasterstz.com.
